What little devil does this ??

I found a great big black catterpillar chewing a rose flower but I don't think he is responsible for all these round holes.

I watched and watched today but caught nothing being busy.

The Roses all have these holes, and they look terrible.

Sad part is, they all looked so beautiful when I went away for about 10 days.

Sad homecoming.

Hi Marion, the more rounded holes may have been caused by leaf cutter bees which use the leaf portions to line their homes. As for the ragged, silvery looking holes, i'm not sure about those.

What does the bee look like, and should I leave it alone, seems a shame to knock it out when it is building a home but the plants look bad and a couple of the weaker ones are starting to look very unhappy with the situation. LOL.

Looked healthy to me too and the pot has holes. We have to remember that just like us no plant is perfect. I always find a torn or deformed leaf on my plants. Especially after watering day.

Brianna One should make sure what bugs they are, since different ones may need different treatment. As I asked before, do you see any small flies around? Those are fungus gnats, and they lay eggs in the soil. Larvae feeds on organic matter and if they should run of it, they feed on roots. Whole life cycle of FG is approx. 3-4 weeks, so there is always flies if there are larvae and vice versa. Flies do nt 'eat' plants; one should concentrate on destroying larvae. Get some Gnatrol or Mosquito Bits and use it when watering. Flies are annoying, and if there are many, use yellow sticky traps to catch them. This should be repeated few times to destroy next generation.

i am not sure what the bee looks like but i had the same thing happen to some of my roses a couple of months ago. i just ignored it, they haven't been back in a while and the roses have new growth now and are fine.

Yes mine are like that too Marion, this is the second time in a couple of months.
Dont worry about them I have posted a link it just look like any bee.

Funny how they just pick on the roses when there are Hibiscus and others all over the place.
One of nature's amazing little mysteries, isn't it ?
