Here is a better photo. What is it ? Should I wrench it from the good earth ? or let it multiply ?

Possibly one of the Tababuias. If it is, it does seed heavily but the long furry sausage-like seed pods can be removed and disposed of.

That'll teach me to scroll down first. GH may well be right, somehow I hadn't thought of them growing so far south. If it is Tabebuia, some can be quite violent self-seeders, more like a snow-storm and very viable when fresh, you would be pulling up seedlings forever. Let's wait for more input, but get the axe sharp just in case the verdict comes in.

g'day julia, you could grow them in small gardens, there is no need to let the plant ramble the vines can be fed around and around over itself, the vines can be pruned back and use the prunings for more planting material or to add to the compost, also the leaves and young shoots are edible like spinach just wilt them is all that is needed. they can also be grown in the shade. len Here is a link that might be useful: lens growing sweet spuds and pines

Yep. Particularly for me--- SoCal and indeterminate tomatoes. I'm doing "ok" with my beneficials but I'm still working on the diversity of plants to attract the pirate bugs and such. I'm still trying to figure out how to get some buckwheat and/or alfalfa into my tiny backyard. And I don't ever see yarrow or tansy seeds/seedlings at the garden centers. I was hoping that lacewings would be able to take care of these pests because I definitely am going to purchase some in the next week. I just don't want to shell out more money for the "other" beneficials if I don't have a nice home for them to put out future generations. Looks like UC IPM isn't as thorough for the tomato bug as they are for other pests. You never had to deal with them when you lived down here jean? Thanks Kevin

Thanks to everyone! I appreciate all the ideas! After re-measuring, I realized that the window doesn't sit in half the room, more like 60%, so the whole idea of spliting the room in half doesn't work. So yay! It's the one big room & laundry* idea. ;-) I LOVE our clawfoot tub - it's original to the house (or at least the bathroom). Great soaking tub. Not so great shower, hence the desire for a separate shower. I have room for a 4.5x5ft shower in the closet space. * I have an Asko laundry pair so 240v and stackable. I actually have a condensing dryer, and I'll admit, it has been troublesome and I recomend a vented system to anyone who's thinking about dryers. That's one advantage to moving the laundry to the 2nd floor - I have a totally below grade basement and solid masonry exterior walls (no studs anywhere on the exterior walls) so there's no way to vent a dryer in the basement. Above grade, I can at least chisel out a hole for a vent pipe in the 14in thick wall. Thanks again! It was worth thinking about. Always ;-) Hunzi

Do you have a little sample of the granite from the lot yours is from? That will give you a starting point. Take the granite piece to the paint store, and start there. I think you will like cloud white. (especially since your woodwork is that color!) I guess you should also try white dove. I'm sure you know by now that BM offers sample sizes for all colors now. Not just the "popular" ones in those little jars. If you do have the sample granite piece, it is nice to hold up the paint samples at home in your lighting with the granite. My thoughts on the lighting at the fabricator's place--at least both the paint sample and the granite will be in that icky light. You will be able to tell if it works. Maybe they can even move the slab for you to better light, maybe near a door. If for some reason you don't have a piece of granite, ask if they have one for you--maybe they just did a job using that granite and have a piece they can give you. I used to keep a piece of granite, a piece of my cork floor, all my paint swatches with me in a tote bag. My husband was always amazed I could whip out my bag and produce samples. I also had pictures of the stove and hood too. Hey, you never know....

I don't think it is a Tabebuia, the leaves don't look right. I too thought it looked like Allamanda, but that is not a tree.

I agree with Dee, its nothing like the Tabeubia I grew one in Townsville and the flowers
were kind of crinkley and some were frilly on the edges also the leaves are wrong.

Reckon Tony has the right one once again, Good on you Tony...Cheers..MM.

Tony is right, definately the weedy Tecoma, in a hurry yesterday and didn't look past the flowers. Seed pods look like tecoma not tabebuia.

I also thought of Tecoma stans but felt that the petal formation at the top looks wrong. The Tecoma petals overlap a little whereas these ones have a definite gap. Do they just vary from plant to plant?
