Looks as soft as a pillow. Great looks. What about scent?
Blossomtime reminded me of Frau Karl Druschki, large hybrid perpetual climber with extraordinary large white blooms. Do you have that one?

Marishka, Climbing American Beauty is not the same as the HP American Beauty aka Mme Ferdinand Jamain. I'm going to refer to the HP here. It is very difficult to get the "real" American Beauty. Many years ago it was so popular that florists named anything that looked similar "American Beauty" just to make the sale. Customers didn't know the difference... Now, almost every "American Beauty" you can buy from a nursery is acutally the HP "Ulrich Brunner Fils". To make it worse, probably every Ulrich Brunner Fils is virused. Several years ago some friends of mine and I ordered every American Beauty we could find from every catalog we knew. They were ALL Ulrich Brunner Fils! The only guaranteed true, identified American Beauty is the one that Vintage Gardens offers. I know the bushes in Albuquerque that their mother plant(s) came from. Roses Unlimited also says they have the real American Beauty, grown from cuttings from those same bushes in Albuquerque. They sent me one and I'm waiting to see it bloom. Ulrich Brunner Fils has fewer petals than AB. It is a strong, rather harsh cerise and is less fragrant than AB. It is relatively thornless. The true American Beauty has many more petals, is a blended cerise with a smoky overcast, veining in the petals, VERY fragrant! It is thorny. The real clue to look for is a hooked pair of prickles, like a goat head, under the base of the leaf bract. Ulrich doesn't have that. Thanks all-I think everyone should have this rose. :) Hi Marion-Given my preferences I would choose PT over DP anytime. I fell in love with Paul out at Lozza's place where he is draped over a deck and intermingled with Mme Isaac Periere. He was in full bloom and absolutely glorious-no two blooms the same-some pink some apricot and all with a creamy base. He is quite big out at Lozza's Place and mine has grown amazingly well in the year he has been in. I would definitely consider him-he is a beautiful toughie and also has the advantage over DP in that he repeats-mine was covered in early spring and is setting more buds now. I think that, with a young plant, the thing to do with those long leaders is to bend them down and train them into a position parallel to the ground rather low down, planning for them to become thick branches as the plant ages. Shoots that are tied parallel to the ground tend to want to put out new, sideways shoots from their nodes, rather than keep growing from their tips (which you could pinch out if they reach the end of the trellis). It can be a problem with climbers that they get sparse low down, and seem to want to send all the green stuff to the top. This is fine if you have a pergola and want a green roof, but a bit of a pest if a green screen was what you needed. A framework of low woody branches lets you cut the plant back annually, to put out new green stuff from low down. I think that autumn pruning - about Easter - might be best, as it gives the plant time to grow back by the next flowering season (and to make shade for the next summer) - but I've made mistakes here, and would like to hear from other members on this. hello there, if it was my rose then I would consider making sure it is well watered, a bucket of water once a week say, and do feed it. I would suggest also changing the make of fungicide you use from time to time, so that the disease doesent build up an immunity to the fungicide. Try to gather all the fallen infected leaves and burn them, and continue to gather them as they fall in the autumn so that the disease spores cant multiply. And most importantly, sing the dear rose a song and tell her how much you love her. Works for me!

I had not seen this thread but from an earlier comment by Sandie, today I drove to a nursery 40 km away to try and buy Blossomtime (they also did not have it at this time of year). So maybe next winter. I have a new veggie garden 11x11 metres and from 4m to 3 m high which is covered on all sides and top by chicken wire against the foxes and birds and other wildlife (hens, horses and others). So a large wire "monster" with raised garden beds in it as the veggie garden houses my 5 ducks and 1 drake as pest exterminators.

Planted tonight Sombreuil, New Dawn (thanks Meryl!), Alfred Carriere, left a spot for Blossomtime right at the front, then Kathleen Harrop near the door so no thorns to grab you, and tomorrow gigantea and rambling rector up the back of it onto some gums. Cannot wait to find a blossomtime or to see my "mini-aircraft hanger" covered in roses.

The ducks have a sunken old bath someone gave me and the pvc piping from the plughole goes to some happy tomatoes outside it.

I just love spending time in there, sitting on the raised beds and looking at my timid ducks and planning more things to plant. It happens to have the best view of my property and is a very peaceful place watching the mountains and valley around.

When the roses grow I will post some photos.

MistyMorn and Greencroc-thanks-she looks lovely at all stages,one of those roses that melts my heart.

I look forward to see some pics of your climbing guardians! As for Rambling Rector, I'm also looking forward to it. It seems here in WA it's almost impossible to find. I have a 5m tall and 9m wide wall behind my shed and spa (area is tight, lower 2m in semi shade, but with lots of space to climb!), and would like to cover it with some rambling beast.
I'll give my best to find Rambling Rector, but if not, maybe Seagull or Wedding Day, which are available, will do the job.. maybe even together.
