My mom loves lasagna gardening, but I don't think it will work for me. The clay soil is so CLAY that the grass has roots at least 8" - 10" deep. When we take out the grass, we have sunken gardens we have to fill in with cartloads (like 20-30 each) of soil. Thank goodness, we can cheat and take it out of what was the pasture. Originally, the potager was going to be on a slight slope...not anymore LOL. The good thing is, this soil, mixed with the clay is going to make great garden beds. Old hay, aged manure and lots of clay...did I mention I have the "nephews" out helping every weekend haul dirt? They've been great, but I'm still running out of time to finish one big bed before I pick up my roses this weekend! Once the beds are in, planting is easy. I've got the bed in front of the porch done and the one under two small fruit trees. The two beds against the house for the fairy garden are done and just hauling dirt in the front bed. The two bigger beds in the fairy garden is all that's left to pull out grass...I'm so glad there's no grass in the future potager, or it would have to wait for next year. Once I finish "stealing" the dirt, it's a quick rototill and ready to layout beds :)

The CC instructions don't explicitly say that it cannot be installed inset with zero clearance to adjacent base cabinets; getting that through inspection without a letter from Capital might be a challenge, though. Throw 3" of flush filler either side before the deeper cabinets and I'd expect to pass inspection (ditto the BS). The filler would also allow blending the counter edge cleanly. Of course, one can simply pull the rangetop forward so it is still flush, as discussed above. Doing that also permits deeper upper cabinets (the limiting distance is the back of the rangetop to the front of the upper cabinet including door). Back on the original topic, my impression is that the BS rangetop might not actually be inset if installed in a 27" deep cabinet (meaning that the alleged exposed flammable surfaces on adjacent base cabinets would not exist), but I haven't measured that to make sure.

Thanks, Isabel. The pulls on the large fridge have artichoke finials, i do not recall the mfr, I got them at a No. NJ dealer called Hardware Designs. The pulls on the refrigerator door are the same pulls, minus the artichoke finials. If memory serves I had to pay extra to NOT have finials, since it was special order or somesuch nonsense. Thanks, Palimpsest and Dianalo. We are not redoing that kitchen, and I do hope people like it .... we are going to sell it. With a house attached! Anyone interested? We fell in love with a country farmhouse in CT over 18 months ago, and are expanding and redoing most of it (we fell in love with its lovely setting and stonework, etc). We moved to CT last August so the kids could start the school year here, but we had to move into a rental house because our CT house is behind schedule. So for now the kitchen you see sits empty, our "real" house is unfinished, we are in a rental that's lovely but not home, and when it snows I have to pay to plow all of them, yikes!
