Well Howard, lookee here, you want to go to Chicago. Lots of company. The thing with going back to NY rather than elsewhere, for me, is that NY is easy to get into and out of, I can do a RT in one day, don't need hotels, don't need to rent a car, don't need a pet sitter at home etc, etc, etc..... That and I don't feel like taking my vacations in the States going to orchid shows. If I'm going to go to the trouble of organizing a few days out of town, I want it to be well worth it. Albeit,it's fun meeting people from the forum. Not having Paul around anymore to take care of the dogs and birds, when I decide to disappear for a couple of days, just adds another "issue" to consider. At the moment,I don't have the energy.

It's been a few years since I last grew shungiku but I seem to recall that the petals drooped and the center disk became more rounded with age. I dug back through my photos and came up with one that shows a number of young blossoms and one starting to age in the upper left. On the aging flower, the petals are starting to drop down and the center is taking on a more rounded appearance. Perhaps stress of being moved or age is contributing to the appearance of the OP's flower. FataMorgana

I really don't think it's a coneflower! Those thorny stems are similar to raspberry, but the leaves look too long. I don't know if all cones are like mine, but the leaf edges on mine are not serrated like that at all. No thorny stems, either. Sad if your coneflowers are gone! Hopefully, they're still under there, trying to grow despite this new plant taking over. If this is something to rip out, be careful to look for the coneflower leaves coming up and don't damage the coneflowers in the process of removing these.

Well, whether you did or not, I'll go back to the drawing board and fetch you a larger pic. :) I'm pretty confident about the 'Sweet Home Chicago' because its tag has stayed with it since the day it came. Of course, if the vendor was mistaken... but it looks like three out of the four Hosta Library pics. The first pic has a leaf at a strange angle which makes it look rounder than it is, I think.
