I have to tell you I had a very hard time replacing the one that i lost. Soon However Fred Sommers will be opening up a store where you will be able to purchase some of the best brugmansias out there. I know him so i was able to purchase one pre-opening. I am sure when Sommer gardens has it's official launch you guys will know about. This brug is one of the rare ones, but it is VERY hardy and worth the investment of time and money (fertilizer isn't cheap) to have in your collection. Also Ibrugs members will receive discounts at his store...and he has some beautiful plants. He is a florida grower and gets an early start so robust plants will be available for sale...Rosalie is truly a gem

Iris, I just started in brugs so mine are all in pots. I have both gophers and moles and an ongoing battle with them since 1990. They seem to like our sandy soil. I have grown datura for years and they don't bother them at all. I have tried every remedy for them and I think the grub killer seems to work the best, although I read if you get rid of your grubs they will then eat the earthworms. I had no idea how many grubs we had until we built a 15x20 foot greenhouse and tons of grubs came up through the soil....they were huge!!!!! I don't like to use chemicals because of the dogs. I was thinking of sinking brug pots into the soil that way they could only eat part of the roots if they were so inclined. I also use to use wire mesh around the plant roots, but I realize your brug is always planted. The other suggestion is buy a bunch of very expensive plants and plant them around the brug. That way they will eat the pricey plants and not your brug. LOL!!! Just kidding! I wish you luck! Joyce

Attempting to divide a brugmansia is not something I'd recommend. Brugs are woody shrubs or small trees and very few shrubs/trees will take to any root division at all well. Think of digging up a small crabapple tree and chopping the root system apart......more inclined to kill the tree rather than successfully divide it into 2 or more plants. Although somewhat later in the year than ideal, you can cut it back hard if too leggy and straggly for you. Or you can remove one of the stems at the base to balance things more. Brugs root easily from cuttings, so you could consider doing that with the trimmings. ps. shrubs that can be divided are those that produce canes or new stems from the root crown, not the main trunk - lilacs, some hydrangeas, forsythia, spiraeas, etc. But this is not a sure fire practice and is not always successful either.

Fortunately, shipping was not a problem. Brug seeds are notoriously difficult to germinate but I did get 2 to germinate out of 12 so I am super pleased. They are still doing well under grow lights. Fingers crossed til they can get outside.
