Thank you for the thoughts and comments folks. I am wondering if the colour is so different on my plant only due to the fact that it is grown in almost full sunlight? I also wonder if some of the crinkled, unruly nature of the leaves could be attributed to the fact that it is root bound (because of the surrounding grass) and kind-of "bursting at the seams". The actual area where the eyes sprout is quite small (maybe 18 inches across) and it seems very tightly packed (lack of room to move--maybe causing the leaves to crinkle more on their way out?). It does share certain qualities of the Titanic sport in Jagd51's picture.

Usually you find me on the hosta forum. I enjoy this one as well. Congrats on your new home! If you email me I can send you some Ventricosa seeds in the fall to get you started. A very common, green hosta, but is my favorite for backgrounds and massing. I guarantee they will grow for you. Literally have thousands of them growing here. Extremely hardy. I will also email you back a picture of their growth habits to give you an idea if you want this particular kind. The gold and varigated varieties look even better in front of the Ventricosas.

It was. We were also lucky that there wasn't much else in the yard-- so we had some good building blocks AND a clean slate at the same time. The perfect place to land for someone with a Japanese maple obsession. ;) I'm now thinking #2 isn't Paul's Glory, but Old Glory. The blue edges don't stand out as much on mine, at any time of year, as they seem to in Paul's Glory photos here in the forum. The margins on mine also seem thinner than the ones on Paul's Glory. When I look at Old Glory, it seems more familiar. They're all so similar to an untrained eye-- it's maddening and fascinating at the same time.

Hi Rebecca! I love Scabiosa as well, they really add to the cottage garden look! I was going to buy a few the beginning of July, but decided to pass until I see how the current residents fill out next year. The corner I'm trying to fill in is all wild bush at the moment! It's the very corner of my lot, and my little ones use the path that goes through it to get to the bus. It's backed by a tree line, and has a lot of shade except one corner, which gets full sun. I'll put a picture in, of the area :) I have a post on here somewhere asking about larger rose bushes that will do in that specific spot (lots of wind, very cold etc) ...I've been given so many wonderful ideas from members I'm having a hard time choosing now! This is the area :) it goes further along to the left, about 15-20ft Where the small sapling is on the right, is where the single rose bush will go. There's a path in there somewhere as well, although it's not visible from this angle :) The lower hanging branches and smaller saplings along the tree line will be removed in fall, along with all the weeds! (Hahaha) To the back, we're planting Annabelle Hydrangeas, Hosta, Astilbe & Ostrich Fern (there's about 4 hours of light there) Next layer in more light (5hrs) will be low growing catmint, lupine, allium, tulips, daffodils, etc. We're trying to fit in a clematis or two, but I'm not sure where yet :) I need some pinks and reds in there.
