'Dawn' dish soap works great. I don't know how "natural" it is, but I figure, if it's safe enough to wash dishes in, it's safe enough to spray on plants. However, I always use the dust form of BT, with a 'Dustin' Mizer' dust applicator -- it is a really efficient way to do it, and the 'Dustin Mizer' makes a little go a long way.

I don't like dish washing soap because it is anti bacterial. If you can find some that is pro bacterial, then I'm for it. I talk about baby shampoo because everyone knows what it is and can easily distinguish it from something like Pert (full of conditioners). Baby shampoo doesn't have much of anything crazy in it. It's just sudsy. Anything sudsy that does not kill bacteria or fungi is good for me. My wife was skeptical about using a surfactant until I showed her how. I think she wasn't using enough in her potted plants. She had a plant with soil that was hydrophobic. I put a squirt of baby shampoo in and the water soaked right in. Now she's telling everyone and I'm finding bottles of soap all over the yard.

hairmetal, I recall someone using cheap Baby Shampoo for that purpose. Maybe try that and see if that works. Andi, What's wrong with roots coming out of fabric bags into the ground? I have Roottrapper bags with knitted type at the bottom for the fine roots to grow into to gain advantage of water and nutrients being leached out of the container into the ground for faster growing. I have put large pine bark mulches on top of the media mix and it seemed to keep the mix cool during hot Texas summer weather. There are definitely more roots at near the top than the ones without large pine bark mulches.
