Constance Spry in bloom

Probably the most beautiful of them all, Constance Spry is a new wonderful addition to my new garden. She's still a baby, only 5 ft tall and 3 ft wide, but is already covered with more than 20 buds, one of which just opened. This picture was taken early this morning ... hope you'll like it and perhaps consider to plant this beauty in your gardens too. It is spring bloomer -- but how beautiful! It leans next to my kitchen's window and I hope it will soon grow up and cover it all.

Encouraged with beautiful Constance, I'm looking forward to plant more magnificent spring blooming climbers, like Shropshire Lass, Chianti, Veilchenblau rambler and similar. But alas, I know no one who tried Shropshire Lass .. is there anyone who can say more about her? Any info is highly appreciated! Thank you all!

Lovely pic.She is a great rose.My brother grows and ejoys her in the UK.Unfortunately,I don't have any space left.
Shropshire Lass seems to be a favourite on the Antique forum.Ask there ifyou don't get any replies.

Hi Tom-a beautiful photo.
I have 2 CS's.The original which I purchased around 5 years ago covers the length and height of 2 bedrooms at the front of the house.The other is a sucker from that one which I grow through a half dead Tibouchina tree with other roses.
The original one has suckered madly-due to the gallica genes I expect-and I have to remove the other roses from that bed as she is taking over and starving them out.
She is one of my favourites both for bloom form and perfume.

Melissa'a comment makes me wonder about a couple of things. First, about Alchymist. Is it considered an early, normal or late bloomer? And secondly, I'm sure that climate affects blooming period for once bloomers also, I'm just wondering to what extent. I live in a climate with much milder winters than N. Italy (much more different than the slight difference in latitude would explain) but with summers of more or less similar fierceness and I've seen Alchymist blooming in April / May without particular problems as the one's Melissa is describing. Maybe it is much more of an issue in a climate where the winter is harsher causing the plant to bloom later when the harsh Med summer has already arrived? Thanks everyone, glad to hear from you Olga, I post so infrequently, yet every time I do, you answer. I do appreciate it! Robert, there are many different growing conditions in South Carolina. I live 13 feet above sea level, it is very difficult to grow roses with a lot of European ancestry here. The soil is sand dominated by Live Oak trees hogging the moisture and nutrients. Columbia SC is zone 7b 8a ish, the elevation high with lots of red clay in the soil. It is only 141 miles away. Roses Unlimited in Laurens SC is 206 miles and Ashdown just a few miles further: around zone 7a for both. These roses work beautifully in those locations. I-95 is close so people may be in the area anyway. I'm not in a huge hurry. Hope everyone has a nice weekend. AJ

A beautiful Rose Tom, one I have never seen before.
Seems it grows better than some of my climbers.

How to attach a protograph ..
In my postings, I just paste in some piece of HTML code (that's a code that diplays all web pages) that says to the browser to display a picture from another website. I use PBase.com as my online gallery place and all pics that I upload there I can later use and dsiplay wherever I want (including here).
That HTML code goes like this:

[img src="http://www.pbase.com/minoltamaniac/image/52118167.jpg"; width="600" height="475" border="0"]

You see the "http: ..." -- that the link to the specific pucture at pbase.com.
Also, to display this code in this message rather than picture itself, I've used square brackets. Instead, you'll have to replace them with brackets respectively.
