All lovely. Even the DA's are starting to grow on me, I have never been a fan at all but think now I may get 1 just to see.

Great Pics Jan and beautiful roses, Seduction one of my favourites grows well here.
Must say your Camp David looks Fantastic!!! mine does not look anywhere near as nice.
Lots of buds on mine yesterday must have a look and see what is open and bring inside

I only grow Boscobel from your list, and I think it's one of Austin's better roses--love it. For beauty, scent, and good blooming, I suggest Munstead Wood. Another beauty, with great scent and blooms all the time is Rouge Royale. Other good smellers and bloomers are Golden Celebration and Tamora. Diane

Polycarbonate sashes (and some rose pics)

I don't have pics, but the construction is pretty simple: Just a sheet of polycarbonate in between a wood frame on the inside and outside, plus some trim, handles, hinges. Sealed with silicone. In the pics, each of the 4 panels is 1 polycarbonate sheet; there are 2 polycarbonate sheets per sash and 2 sashes total. There is vertical trim covering the gap between the sheets in each sash, and another piece of vertical trim that covers the gap between the sashes (which is attached to only 1 of the sashes, so the sashes can be opened independently). There's regular household weatherstripping to block the gaps around the edges of each sash.

Claire Austin will likely be a small climber in zone 10. If your plan is to get PJPII, I would select Charles Darwin, which has the benefit of being close to thornless. PJPII can have a yellow tinge that could play very nicely with Charles Darwin. I think Emily Bronte and Desdemona would make a lovely combo too!... I think the look would be more harmonious than Charles Darwin and PJPII. To my eye, Charles Darwin and Emily Bronte would make a so-so combo... Desdemona is very beautiful! Beginning to think I am of little help... however, my thought is, if it were me, my next planned purchase could help me to decide this one...

Some roses not budding after deadheading? Why?

Ah, thanks seil! It's dark out, so I can't take a photo right now, but I did not realize they all had different cycles. Mine have been re-growing the starts of buds in a day or two after pruning, and then growing a new rose within about 4 weeks, so I guess that's fast. I thought it was from deadheading them well, above the bud eye, which I never had done before. And maybe it is the heat. It's been a little hot for a few days after what seems like an unseasonably cool summer, and with less morning fog and clouds then usual. I will give them more time, and also, try to take a picture tomorrow because it is just striking how differently they are re-blooming. But I guess all plants are a bit like that. And actually, if I think about it, the three which are really re-blooming get heavy afternoon sun, but the other one is in more shade, and the five which are small and not hybrid tea roses (maybe someone knows what they are) are really in almost no sun at this time of year because I have big maples which go bare in the winter but cover up so much light in the summer. I am also a bit concerned about a big crack in one of the root balls for one of them, which I only saw today for the first time, so I will try to share that as well. Much thanks for your speedy response, and I will post again when it is light outside!

Gorgeous roses John. Is Black Velvet a good disease resistant one? I'm in Melbourne (Ringwood) and I'm trying to find a good dark red rose to grow. Can you tell me a bit about it?

Well Dee Ringwood my old stamping ground We my brother and I came to Ringwood in 1951 bought land lived in the sleep out at the back and my brother started building a house there. Got married in 1955 in the little church in Adelaide Street (not there any more).My daughtet was born in Burke Street Ringwood.
And My brother still lives in the same place Strathallyn Rd

Black Velvet a Standard very strong grower for me here some details.

Dark red blooms with a good fragrance are borne mainly on single stems. Dark green, leathery foliage on a bush of average height.

Ringwood is very close to where we used to live too. But when we lived there, Burwood Highway was just a single bitumen track with wattle trees going right over the road forming a bower. That is why we bought there, it was so beautiful, now a what .. a double highway of at least four in each lane!!
Beautiful roses Jan. My Camp David has a lot of mildew on it this year.
