Rhapsody in Blue

I have fallen in love with this very deep purple rose which I believe is a Heritage rose. I can't find it in the ususal rose nurseries and don't know of any Heritage Rose growers. They also need to send to WA. Ann

Annabel I bought this rose 3 years ago from Bunnings Joondalup, I wasn't even sure if it was on Fortuniana (?) rootstock but regardless it has done really well for me in my very hot garden. It does blow out a bit in summer but you get so many flowers it doesn't matter. I will look when I'm over there next and see if they still have it for you.
Good luck!

I'm glad Bunings do have it. The garden lady was in our new garden centre a couple of weeks ago so I ordered it. Only some of Bunnings roses are on Fortuniana rootstock, but prob not this. In my scrolling I found a similar on from Swanes called Route 66 and Roworths in Lansdale had (they get Swanes roses) it so I ordered it through our local garden centre. Have not heard yet. I'm in Esperance so too far from Joondalup and no-one coming to Perth. Many thanks, ann

I have had this rose a few years now, grafted. It grows and flower much like a floribunda. It is a nice plant, nice full shape, abundant clean fresh foliage and lots of flowers (I have had a problem with larvae here, butterflies seem to love this rose). My main complaint is the color and fragrance. In full sun it fades and the fragrance is sweet honey like, not very memorable. The color is best in cloudy weather or in shady spot. If I should choose a purple rose I would much rather have Alfred Colomb or Blue Parfum, even though Blue Parfum is a much weaker grower here and freezes to the ground every winter.

I don't think Ebb Tide or Rhapsody in Blue work in a vase. Ebb Tide blooms in sprays and has a vase life of less than a day for me. Rhapsody in Blue also blooms in sprays and only lasts about a day or two on the bush. I haven't managed to cut one yet as mine hasn't bloomed much. Instead I'll recommend The Prince. It is darker than WS2K and lasts a couple of days in a vase. I'm also trying Fragrant Plum which is a very nice lavender but I bought it in the summer and it hasn't bloomed very much yet. I'm getting Blackberry Nip from Wisconsin roses next year which looks like it should be a very good cut flower. Beth has some pictures on the gallery of it.

Rhapsody in Blue & Golden Celebration tall shoots, Prune now?

I stop pruning my roses now, including taking blossoms off for other uses, so they will harden before winter. The production of the rose hips helps the plants get ready for winter, and pruning would encourage that plant to produce new growth that would not be hardened for winter.

Hi,
I am looking for a rhapsody in blue rose as well but no luck. Does anyone know where I could get one or even a cutting? Thanks
Jackie
