Storm on Sunday

Today I worked from early morning to mid afternoon. I am batching so I gave lunch a miss and worked through. Weeding, brush cutter, tidying etc. I mowed the front lawn three times (ride-on, hand mower and then cylinder mower). There was hardly a leaf or twig out of place. Then came the storm - mainly wind. Here are a couple of pictures of the storm effects. How did others go? Daniel

Daniel do I see a tree down, now that does not look good.
Everything OK over this way hardly a twig down.
Gosh your front is so big mowing it three times you are keen.
Once a month is enough over this way, just not enough rain to make it grow.

not much of a storm over our way (Holland Park) and only 2mm of rain which was very disappointing.

Okay... now we're getting into freaky winds.... When Hurricane Hugo came through South Carolina, he came over our little town of Sumter. My dad and my brother went out during the eye and said it was awesome. They didn't think to wake me up to share in the experience. But anyways, the next morning we woke up and checked the yard. At the time my dad had one of those wobbly aluminum sheds that was little more than a few sheets of aluminum tethered to a wooden pallet floor. Hugo or one of his off-spring tornadoes managed to grab the shed lift it up and set it down two yards down in that neighbor's pool. Not a big deal in itself. The funny part is that everything that was in the shed was still there. The lawn mower, the weed trimmer even the bottles of oil and herbicides were still standing on their shelves. Hugo just thought it would be fun to remove the outer shell and leave everything else. What a jokester Hugo was.

that really was incredible! even the dog was cowering, and he's never even flinched during a thunderstorm before. i have no idea where the cat went to hide. the glasses in the cupboard were rattling so much, i thought for sure there'd be nothing but glass dust left by the time it was over. the rain was so nice. we went outside while the storm was still going. maybe it was because it hadn't rained in so long, but it sure had that sweet earthy aroma of a spring shower.

Michael - not hotter and brighter. In fact, it has been getting down in the fifties at night. I noticed this is not in just one area of the garden. It is on some of the other dark red roses also. One is Lincoln. Perhaps I should have posted this in another forum. Not too many replies, but I surely do thank you, Michael. It was so noticeable that I felt compelled to try and find out. If I don't hear anything else, I will try to post it on the regular roses forum--but first I have to get out our monthly newsletter. Time is of the essence. Thanks again. - Barb

I would not get Internet on a cell phone as my only resource. Not only would it be too hard to type using the onscreen keyboard but reading the teeny screen is difficult too. Oh.. I did not mean it like that. I use a Tracfone that doesn't even have a camera on it! I'm still in the ice age I guess. Some people here were taking about a way to get internet on your home computer with your cell phone somehow. (I do realize I'd have to go with a different cell phone than the Tracfone to do this). The phone guy just left a little bit ago. He said there was some corroded wiring and moisture in the box outside. He rewired some things and switched to a different connecter and all is good for now. I'll have to wait until the next big rain before I can be sure though. I'd still like the info on the internet through the cell phone that Flamingo or someone was talking about a few months ago. I want to be prepared if I start having issues again. Thanks!

It must have been very disheartening to see all that hard work wasted, though hopefully you got some rain out of it. Look on the bright side - more leaves for mulch and a log for edging or growing plants over for that natural look.

As a matter of fact I went to my son-in-law's place last night to recover my chipper-chopper. It will be good to mulch what I can. I am grateful for whatever rain we get, even though Sunday was primarily wind, we did get some much needed rain.

Disappointing, isn't it, when all your hard work is undone.
I had no idea there were areas with such winds, the "storm" that reached the Gold Coast just as we got back from Bris, sailed straight over the top with one or two rumbles and about 12 spots of rain. Amazing how localised conditions are.
Just this afternoon I was driving home to Bris radio weather reports of "fine today" and the skies were as black as pitch every direction. It's thundering now, actually 13 drops have fallen, so the odds are "someone" is getting "something" but "somewhere else".
Now back to you, what a pity you had not taken a "before" shot to impress your wife with how nice it HAD looked.
