Frangipani and Day Lily

I can never quite make up my mind if I like the coloured Frangipanis or the white ones best. Somedays I just think the white ones look so wonderful, then other days I can't help but admire the colours of this one.

I am rather partial to the delicate colouring of this Day Lily.

Your Birds are terrific and speaking of Frangipani I put a link on to the ones
That are on sale at Big W today Barbara it over in the Gardening in Oz Forum.
It may tempt you into buying one. O that Day lily is fantastic too.

do you touch up the photos to make them look like paintings (the frangipani especially looks like one of those wonderful old art book pictures)

or is it the skill of the photographer??

I love lilies for their stately appearance and scent... but hate the red lily beetle battle. We live along a river and worry about pesticide run off. So there are only two clumps in our yard. However, we do have many varieties of daylily. These are one of my favorite flowers... but my DH is not crazy about them. He thinks the long slender leaves and the same green tones look boring. The compromise was to place them among plants with different leaf textures and colors. And I have to agree with him that this helps to hide the ratty look of day lilies as they mature. (You're so right about that, Kevin.) A favorite new day lily is H. 'Light the Way' which I found at Bloomingfields Farms in Gaylordsville, CT. These are magnificent! The stems are very tall, which means the plant can be tucked behind shorter plants and the whitish blossom will peek out above its neighbors. Here is what LtW looked like the other day in our gardens. The flower color is more like the second shot...green and white tones. One "problem" ..... day lily clumps can get enormous and crowd out other things, even when divided. That happened in our small yard. The 6 tiny Hemerocallis 'Malaysian Monarch' fans that I planted years ago spread like the plague. We gave most of them away to a friend with lots of property. Molie

Konrad Your Tiger lilies are beautiful. We have the lily beetles around, if you don't watch they will decimate the leaves. Looks awful. If you spot any beetles, even one, just squash it (yuck!) or drop into jar with some water in it. Anytime there is a black gunk on the underside of the leaves (that is actually excrement with larvae in it-yuck again!), knock it off with a spray from hose. Larvae will die if not on the leaves-no food. That's best way to control them. (See photo what happens if you leave them on...) Most important is to get rid of adults so they don't breed. Lilies and daylilies are so photogenic. Just beautiful! I have a pink lily from a trade that looks identical to the one you got from Bunny. I don't have the name either but very pretty.

You have excelled yourself again. The birds look fantastic, how do you make them sit still they always move when I try and take photos of them. The frangi is very pretty. You can never seem to get two the same. I have similar colours but one has more orange and another has more pink. That day lily is gorgeous, do you know the name of it or where I could get one like it? I love it.

Now that really is a superb photo of the kooka, Barbara. AND you are so lucky being able to grow those magnificent frangipani. One thing I do envy you up that end, is the ability to grow them. Can't believe you buy them in Big W.

Paradisi: The photos are more or less as they come out of the camera, I do sometimes brighten them or crop the photo to get rid of excess and add a touch of unsharp mask. That's the limmit of my editing. I keep promising myself, that I will find the time to learn how to to more than the basics with editing software, but never seem to get around to it.
Tricia, you can grow so many things that I cant, I envy you.

Your a wiz Barb,lovely shots,I have a ball watching doves come and eat at our place,there is a flock of about ten.Yes and a Kookaburra comes along and sits and watches on the clothes line,lovely day-lilly,frangipanni,cheers,greencroc.

Sorry it's taken me so long to answer, I've been very busy.
As for the name, no I can't help you, it's from my next door neighbour and she was given it many years ago and cannot remember the name.
