Hi, Shirley, my goodness, Tx heat does grow beautiful flowers. I was thinking the late summer and early fall is kinda boring months in Chicago, not many flowers out blooming . I was exctied to see my spder orchid bloomed. I love your Catts, large size flower, great colors. What is the name of orchid on your second picture that is pale gren and pink blush on the edge? I love its delicate shape and soft color. All are surely beauties. Fresh-tea, Ooh, I love the purple color, a lots of purple flowers! Your orchid is in such good size, healthy looking. You must have been taking good care it. Molie, I noticed my orchids started to shift blooming time too. I initially thought was due to I divided the plants up, which disturbed their cycles. But some of my established plants seem wanting to flowers earlier. My Twinkles have spikes 8" high now, ready to bloom in a month or so. it usually bloom around Dec-Jan.; My Sharry Baby , two pots bloom in differnt scheduel. One bloomed this summer, and another one has spikes about 6" long tall now. It should bloom in two month around Oct-Nov. They were from same mother plant; is it the sun ray changed somehow, or else. I can't amke any sense out of this crazy blooming schedule changes... Ginnbug, still waiting for yours...

A related species Habenaria radiata (also a temperate bog orchid) is relatively more common in cultivation. Therefore it's easier to find and apply culture notes for radiata, and hope (not unreasonably) that it works for repens too. Google "Habenaria radiata" and other terms like "culture" or "care" or "media". I'd probably return it (or babies) to it's native environment when conditions improve next year. Hi, I've been sick the last few years and lost all my trops.... Now I'm trying to start over... I don't care if they're named or not....Mostly want bright colors, also really love those night bloomer and vivips.... Have to trade your basic pond plants: hyacinths, lettuce, arrow arum, iris, Colrado and Joey T. lilies, parrots feather, frogs bit, lemon bacopa... In the *cool* plant catagory I have: bladderworts, yellow eyed grass, grass of parnasses, and in the fall I'll have water spider orchids..... Also have land plants..... Have paypal for postage... Gillian - thank you for the info, and thanks for the suggestion as well - it even fits with the part of the color scheme that I'm working on right now. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be on offer at any of the places I was considering ordering from. I'll put it on my wish list! In case anyone was wondering: no, I don't actually remember people's names, I cheat and look them up in the roll call when I need them. It helps me to cement who's who of the people that are currently posting. I actually need to thin out my to-buy list, it's really too big, and I'm going to spend most of next year's budget as well as this year's. But it can't hurt to ask . . . Does anybody have any other suggestions for blue, purple, or pink (of the non-orangey kind) irises and daylilies that perform well for them? And then, to make things easier for next budget . . . Who has suggestions for white, brown (not too reddish), and green flowers that can take the dry? Preferably perennials, especially irises and daylilies, but I'm also planning on putting in Chocolate Soldier Columbine, Green Envy Zinnias, Green Wizard Rudbeckia, and Green Jewel Echinacea. And so far I like the looks of Persian Wood, Green Gizmo, and Thornbird iris, and maybe Gone Native Daylily, although it might be too orangey.
