Why? You'll not receive any thanks from biologists, ecologists or environmentalists, because, unless the plants are going back into the exact area from which you retrieved the seeds, you'll be messing up the gene pool for future studies. Also, "desert prickly pear" doesn't say much. There are many species of Opuntia, and they often hybridize. Do you know exactly which species and variety you have? I'm guessing you don't, else you would have used the scientific name. Sorry to be so negative, but your admirable good intentions sound like they may run afoul of the details. I recommend, at the very least, that you consult with a botanist at the nearest university or major museum or research facility. You might even be able to hook up with a real habitat restoration program, where your experience and enthusiasm will be an asset. Good luck!

Hi Christie, I'm sorry I haven't been back in awhile. Marion is right it is Mock Orange but it's not fragrant. I was so disappointed but it's so pretty that I'll keep it. I also have a sweet autumn clematis and wouldn't you know it? That one's not fragrant either. I got it in a trade a couple of years ago and have since read that it's best to buy them when they're in bloom since some of them are and some aren't fragrant. I have a star jasmine planted very close to the mock orange and they bloom around the same time so that helps some. I really enjoy coming here and reading what you all have to say about gardening in the Ozarks. Keep posting please with pics of course. Nancy

Great, Mabb! As we will take our luggage on board, we won't be able to take sharp knives along. Salsa..yeah...maybe I'll sneak a jar of salsa in as well. I have quite a few Jaune Flammees, too, but I think they will stay at home, as you'll bring some. :) I've just made a big batch of Chocolate Chip Biscuits, and I hope to bring some along, too. Just have to make sure my mum won't find them. So, no promises there.

I gave the old Italian fellow next door to me at Marysville a mixture of tomato plants to make his "sauce" for the winter. Unfortunately he passed away in February and didn't see the results of his labours. The bed was fertilised with the leftovers of his wine production (seeds and stems etc) and a whole lot of alpaca manure. If you look at the picture below then I'm sure the benefit of all that organic matter will be obvious. (He was going to come to Tomatofest of course) These are a sample of what is on the bushes. If you know how big the tray is then I'm sure that you will appreciate the size of some of the fruit. Arrivederci Peter.
