Well Howard, lookee here, you want to go to Chicago. Lots of company. The thing with going back to NY rather than elsewhere, for me, is that NY is easy to get into and out of, I can do a RT in one day, don't need hotels, don't need to rent a car, don't need a pet sitter at home etc, etc, etc..... That and I don't feel like taking my vacations in the States going to orchid shows. If I'm going to go to the trouble of organizing a few days out of town, I want it to be well worth it. Albeit,it's fun meeting people from the forum. Not having Paul around anymore to take care of the dogs and birds, when I decide to disappear for a couple of days, just adds another "issue" to consider. At the moment,I don't have the energy.

Not really sure, I mostly grow orchids. The clivia is just something I bought on a whim a long time ago. I grow mine inside the house in my East facing kitchen window. I give it fertilizer every 3 weeks in the growing season (the same water soluble 15-15-15 fertilizer that i give to my orchids). In the winter I put some of those slow release fertilizer balls on it so it get smaller doses when I water it. I think that these guys need a couple years to mature to blooming size, kind of like Amaryllis. Again, I do not spend a lot of time researching Clivias & how they grow, so I could be completely off base on that one. I am sure that light levels will also certainly help it produce flowers. Standard advice is to give clivias 6-8 weeks of temperatures under 50F in the fall along with little or no water or food for about three months. They do not need to be in low light or pot bound to bloom. This assumes you have fertilized regularly for the other nine months of the year. Use a fertilizer with a 3-1-2 ratio and all minors. I have some variegated Chinese daruma clivias that bloom regularly without a temperature change or a dry period and some other clivias that clearly need both.
