Hi All,

Can anybody pass on info as to where I may purchase caladium bulbs & in particular one variety called "PINK BEAUTY". I am located on Queenslands Gold Coast but supplies from anywhere in Australia will suffice. Many thanks and enjoy YOUR garden as there beauty abounds!

HI Eric. Keep an eye out at little out-of-the-way nurseries, markets and garage sales etc. You'll often pick up some beauties at good prices that way. Alternately, contact R & E nursery and arrange to visit when the plants are fully growing, and buy at the farm (I think they are at Mooloolabah). You will no doubt have difficulty getting hold of her; don't leave messages, because she doesn't return calls; and don't use their mail order service - it sucks. But if you can buy potted plants, there and then, she has some nice plants.

Caladiums are advertised in the back of gardening magazines via mail order. ABC mag has the biggest lot of ads - have a look through. Many, many years ago I bought some mail order and was happy with the results.

My wife used to work for a tool manufacturer and our friends work for varied manufacturers of fixtures (lighting and plumbing). Sue36 is absolutely correct, if the SKU is the same, so's the item. Sometimes, the SKU can even change and the item be the same. The interiors of plumbing fixtures are not different within a brand name as you go store to store or over the internet. I.E. the guts of all American Standard toilets are the same for a model whether it's sold at HomeDepot, Lowe's, or PlumbingFixtures.com (made that name up). Browse locally, write down model numbers, and search for the best prices online. You'll probably get special order items faster by going online than HD or Lowes. And some items that are special order at the big box will be in stock at a plumbing supply company, but not for a better price. Lighting boutiques have been very dissappointing to me, the selections are so small that I don't even look at prices. They have stacks of catalogs to look through, but heck, why not just browse them online instead of at their showroom? If you find a light you like, but are unsure of what their "Oil Rubbed Bronze" looks like, try and find a local retailer or simply ask for a small sample from the company. And all from the comfort of your home, 24-7.

I posted a similar question about a year ago. I don't want to buy online because I'm particular about shade, tone. Stuff that might not show exactly right on a computer monitor. I've found a few places hiding in plain sight. I probably should have googled for galleries near my zip code. That might help you. There was a place in a strip mall 3 doors down from an Italian restaurant I've been to several times. You also might find one or two if you live near any sort of historical tourist areas. I found a great gallery in Marblehead, MA when I went to visit a friend. Always carry a large color card of your wall paint in your wallet.

I didn't see all these posts last year. I'm starting to check ebay this year but it's too early so far. Anyway our weather ( NC foothills) is likely to be too cold for awhile yet. We have had some temps in the low 70's in January this year. Last year I bought one plant from plantmaniac on ebay and three from the Violet Barn. All bloomed almost nonstop all summer and fall. I'm overwintering them without lights indoors. I take them outside whenever I can . I was surprised how big the blooms were last year. They were very showy. I registered with Etsy and bought about 10 clematis plants, so will be checking there for plants this spring. I don't need a whole lot of them but maybe a few more colors. I have some gloxinia seed from Geo seed . What I planted a couple of years ago didn't germinate. Will try again , in case the seed is still good.

There's an art studio near my work that serves disabled adults. Every December they have an open house and I have picked up a lot of pieces over the years. They have $5 and $10 tables with smaller pieces (lots of wood-block prints on the cheap tables) plus larger pieces, some framed, ceramics, woodworking, textiles, etc. I have some pieces from family and friends, some that I did at paint-and-sip places, some pieces from craft fairs, and a few from galleries. I've purchased original art and limited edition prints online from Saatchi Art. I've shopped at other sites but not purchased; unfortunately I can't keep all the names straight. I have only a few mass-market pieces anymore, pieces that I particularly liked. A lot of what is sold at Home Goods and Target and the like are giclee prints. Giclee prints are fine (and affordable), but they don't have any texture. My biggest issue with mass-market prints is that a lot of them seem very generic, because, well, mass market, and they want to be broadly appealing. So they are often blandly appealing but not really very interesting. If you find one that wows you, by all means don't let the fact that it is mass market discourage you. But I would discourage you from choosing something to fill space just because it matches your decor. That's a recipe for boring.

Hi Eric,

I am replying to an old post, so I'm not sure if you are out there.
I have an abundance of Caladiums, not Pink Lady, but similiar, their pink bits aren't quite as bright, & mine have silver splashes through the leaves.
I am happy to send you some for free if you are happy to reimburse my postage costs.
