That's very pretty Bob and looks great there on the white arch.

If I ever see a Clematis for sale I will buy one and see if I can get it to grow, planted South side and heavily mulched you never know.
I have planted the native Clematis before, sadly that just up and died before it had a chance to even grow.

Errrr, it's Bill, Mary-ann, not Bob. Old Bob's me next-door neighbour. None the less, that native clematis you mentioned: was it C. aristata or glycinoides? I've tried both; my first arisatata died and the second I had to remove on account of it was all vine and no flower. I have glycinoides in also, which is nicer, I reckon. I've had it growing a few years, moved it from place to place (as is my way), had it flowering last season - lovely clusters of smallish white flowers - then in May I dug it up, took some cuttings, divided it in two and potted up both halves. One of the cuttings 'took' and the 2 divided main plants have both grown on and I've planted them in with the venosa violacea and both are moving with new growth, though one a bit slowly. Of the cuttings, one survived and has produced 2 new leaves but nothing else. Clematis though, I've noticed can put on a spurt and then just sit there, so I'm hoping that last cutting might start up again soon.

I cannot remember I bought it at Bunnings about two years ago I will look for the label and get back to you.

Thank you triciac; and mistymorn, I can blame you for this: Today I was wondering though Bunnings garden section and what caught my eye? a few Backhousia myrtifolia among their few natives. The label read 3 to 7 metres, covered in flowers, etc, etc. 'Where would I put it?' I asked meself, and after a long inner discussion selected the best in flower (and shape) and put it in the trolley and wondered all the way to the check-out, why? Where'll I put it? Should I take it back? No, I bought it, about $16, good sized pot. Haven't settled on a spot for it yet. All your fault, Mistymorn!

You know Bill I am amazed at how many people go off and buy a plant after I have posted pics of the flowers.. You will love it..
My Lemon Myrtle buds are starting to open now at long last..

I looked through all my labels and could not find it because I have so many I often go through then and toss out the ones that have died except the roses of course..

I keep all my labels in a concertina folder Mary-ann, even the plants that have not lasted the distance, I also keep a plant list in an 'Exel' spreadsheet. On folks who go buy on the quality of your pictures: just goes to show how good they are; and your contrast with the maple confirms it. On natives, a year or two ago (2008) I took a picture of a rare one to flower in the eastern states, Macropidia fuliginosa, the black Kangaroo paw. I took this with my old camera, far cheaper and I think far easier to use and to 'get it right' than the later one.
By the way, the lemon myrtles in Bunnings here are all but past their best. And yours are just flowering!

I lost my last Kangaroo paw to the frost this year that's five now or six I forget. I wont be planting any more though.

My Lemon Myrtle is still flowering Bill though the flowers are going a cream colour now those photos I took on the 20th November.

Actually the black K. paw is not really a K. paw at all, though it looks like it. Kangaroo paws belong to the Anigosanthus (excuse spelling) family, whereas the black one, Macropedia; I'm no botanist or taxonamist but I think they are quite different families. I've a corner of anigosanthus which I cut down every year and occasionally divide and propagate from cuttings, which is not too difficult. I've had them for years and while they suffer from 'ink-spot' fungus (turns the leaves black) they still thrive and flower beautifully. The black (Macropedia) I've tried twice: The first didn't last a season, the other made it through winter and back into summer (08 to 09), flowered (hence the pic) then fell to the too warm and damp humidity, as they all do here on the east coast.
Still haven't quite settled on a spot for the lemon myrtle I bought at Bunnings last week.

Not too much inland either and one year I think it was 2006 I lost many Tropical plants to the frost.

All mine suffered from that black leaf fungus also that never killed them, they were all Anigozanthos.
