Rats

Hi, I wa going to surprise Ray with an Autumn crop of my corn which has been ripe now for a day or so. I went out this morning to pick it, only to find EVERY cob had been demolished by the large rats we have here in Glebe.

I've put out ratsak, but they seem to use it as a food source. There's either too many of them to make an impact . or they're immune. Does anyone know of a way to rid my area of them?. I managed to chop one in half with my spade the other day, after staking their lair out for an hour. I used to pour boiling water down their hole, but it's hard to do in my limited area. Any other suggestions would be happily tried.
