Now that is a easy one Bill we discussed this one years ago I kind of forget now but Tricia may remember.
It had something to do with one of the Members who left us forever her name was Rosemary and this was one of her roses.

That beautiful Rose is Dainty Bess..

Silly me Bill I just right clicked on the pic you see I have a plug in so I can see the Exif data on the images.
It tells you what camera it was taken with, time and date shutter speed, aperture ISO focal length.
This was stripped so I clicked on Properties and there it is Rosemary's 'Dainty Bess'

I could have saved myself a lot of looking up in my book if I had done that first.
I do know they strip the Exif data as I have looked before but this is the first time I thought about looking in Properties for the name on here.

Well, isn't that lovely that someone is still looking at Rosemary's lovely rose. Bill, the story is that Rosemary was one of our original members when we were first starting to get this garden web established in Australia. It had been in America for years then it opened here. Rosemary was a New Zealander who had the most beautiful rose garden, they were actually Kiwi fruit growers but she had a huge love of roses and flowers in general. Rosemary and I became very good friends, although never actually met we often spoke on computer and phone. Then one day I had a call from her husband that Rosemary had died in her sleep. Very unexpectedly. I asked the people on the Gallery if they would put on her favourite rose, "Dainty Bess" so that she would be remembered. I am so pleased to hear that MaryAnn still remembers, as do I. She was a very special lady and is still sadly missed.

I forgot to say that Rosemary nearly always entwined her roses with clematis (I do the same) and I think this is what is behind. It is probably The President, a deep purple that I have put on one of my postings.

Well by golly-gee, I'm glad I asked; it brought back such lovely memories of what you regard a 'special' person - her rose reflects that. And, yes, my clematis expert's book (haven't got it in front of me, an English grower) emphasises roses do go with clematis, and says both suffer similar diseases so the treatment for one benefits the other. Thanks you for that, I'll take note of 'Dainty Bess', I'll look it up for suitablity for my climatic zone and if I can purchase by mail-order next season. Thank you ladies.

Yes, there it is in Botanica's (pocket version) Roses book. It suits (US) zones 4 to 9. According to them I'm in zone 9, though at its edge, I think, the edge nearest 10. I'm moderately successfgul with roses and most zone 9 flowering plants so I'll check out the mail-order sellers/growers next rose buying season. Botanica says it is a lovely rose.
