Some flowers just come out wrong. Mericloned plants (especially when this is done too many times) are prone to this because the DNA is a little less stable with little pieces broken off the edges. If a small additional piece of DNA drops off when the flower bud cells are splitting (you'd be surprised how often this happens, in fact this is why our bodies age), you just may get missing petals, lips, etc. Additionally, I've heard of mutations happening due to overuse of vitamins and hormones. These oncidiums tend to climb. I finally beat them at there game by mounting them on pieces of bark with sphaghnum moss around their roots. In a pot, I would allow enough room in front for (2 years growth) 2 bulbs width. The back bulbs may be buried a little, or just lean all the bulbs forward flush with the level of the edges of the pot and re-pot them in this position.

That is such a loaded question. What I mean is you kinda have to think about where are you going to put it, how often do you want to mess with it is it going on patio or under tree? The good thing is they are very easy and reliable bloomers. When I had mine under trees I took everything out of plastic and put it in wood baskets and I think that is a best bet for you no matter where you put it. Pick potting medium that matches your watering style. Clay mediums dry out quickly wood bark which breaks down in a year or so holds moisture. A good medium would probably be a blend if this is your only orchid then go get a wood basket line bottom with some veggie netting or citrus netting and transfer plant after blooms are done. Don't keep plant wet but moist is good and it's ok if it dries out for a day or two till you water it again. I have mine under a tent in a well ventilated space if there is a lack of wind I put a fan on. They get high filtered light. I try and fertilize 1 x a week with week solution. 1 teaspoon per gal of water with some dawn soap mixed in. I have probably totally confused you, sorry. I highly suggest you check out your local orchid club it is very informative and lots of fun and cheap. Our club only charges 15 for the year and you get parties and 3 orchids during the year. Plus they have raffles and in no time you will have hundreds odmf orchids like me. Hope I helped.
