Jana, It sounds like you need to find a nurseryman who imports roses and convince him(her) that 'Quietness' needs to arrive in Europe. I did take a look at Helpmefind to see if they listed a European vendor for this rose, and you're right, there wasn't one. Mailing roses without sending them through an agricultural inspection is illegal, of course. The thought that bothers me is accidentally introducing Rose Rosette Disease to Europe: now that's a petrifying idea. Good luck in finding your rose! Like Mariannese, I've hankered after the 'Radiance' clan for some years. At least now the Hooks at Roseraie du Désert have introduced some of the U.S.-bred Poly-poms over here, and I can rejoice in the presence of 'Lady Ann Kidwell' in the garden. Melissa

Thank you very much to all the responders to my questions :-))) My question really revolved around *making the roses resist diseases and pests* rather than actual treatments. That's my understanding of the philosophy behind "organic" gardening. I'm aware that everything is a chemical and it's not a term I use in the context that some people use "chemical" and "non-chemical" - as though something could be a "non-chemical"! It wouldn't be anything at all! Regardless, it was an interesting exercise and I am grateful to the folk who answered - I was not able to answer personally as no email addresses are available. I'm still at the beginning of my quest for some cultural changes I could make to help the roses *resist* disease and pests. I have squashed regiments of aphids and have heard of the milk spray - regardless of the benign nature of these treatments, they are still *treatments* and not ways to make the roses intrinsically healthier which is what I still want to do. Ingrid, that's interesting that 'Yves Piaget' wasn't as happy in your garden as at the BC. Do you think that was due to microclimate or some other difference? It is hard to sift out and weigh the variables. RU is a full zone lower than us, but the summer temps are probably pretty similar if looking at the heat index for each location, so a summer visit probably would be instructive. OTOH, I tend to have less energy in the summer heat, so getting my act together to go anywhere is always an iffy proposition. Alana, I'm in the same boat... local gardens I'd like to visit/revisit, but somehow it doesn't happen. I hope y'all are getting slightly cooler temps for the weekend like we are. Thanks, Virginia
