Hi everyone, I would just like to add a little more information. I have never tried growing japanese anenome from seed. I just decided to let these plants go to seed this year because I discovered last year that people on gardenweb are interested in growing almost any garden plant from seed. So, I unfortunately cannot give you any first hand information about how to get them to germinate or how long it takes them to bloom after sowing, or if the seedlings will look anything like the parent plant. I can tell you that the seeds are very tiny little "T" shaped things, and they are surrounded by cottony material that I cannot figure out how to separate from the seeds. I have 3 trades of each color, but I still might be able to get more if the wind hasn't blown them away. Lois in PA

Susan, I've been to Helsingborg many times during the last 10 years for several reasons. First because it is the site of the Fredriksdal Rosarium, the second largest in Sweden and because two of the best rose nurseries in the country are located there. I visited most often after I was involved with a national rose inventory project 2005-2010. A little over 100 persons were trained to document old roses planted before 1950 anywhere in Sweden. We sometimes met at Helsingborg, to socialize and to look at the 1300 specimens we had collected that were judged to be of greater interest among our finds. They are planted for trial in uniform conditions and identification. The photo shows a part of one the trial fields and the two leaders of the project. Now that the project is finished my main reason for going is to see one of my best friends who moved to Helsingborg some years ago. The city is 6 hours away by car so I can't go very often. But anyone interested in old roses should go to Helsingborg if you are in the south of Sweden. And after a visit you may take the ferry to Denmark and visit Elsinore Castle in the sister city of Helsingör across the Sound. If you are lucky you may catch a Hamlet performance in the castle grounds and watch Hamlet's father walking his own ramparts.

Good to know! I'm still debating on whether or not I should pot them or put them in ground. I potted a Queen Elizabeth (A non Austin from Austin's Roses) and put The Generous Gardener and The Queen of Sweden in ground but they are in a some-shade spot. The Generous Gardener is doing the best but it gets the most shade (not much shade in my garden though). I think I'll move the potted Queen Elizabeth to shade and if she starts catching up to TGG then I'll pot the new ones and put them in the shade until late fall. Did you put all of yours in ground?

I grow it. It is a relatively slow grower, and it seems to like morning sun/afternoon shade. I had mine in full sun all day, and it did burn a bit, so I moved it. A very pretty Geranium.
