I have the red super king, the trinidad is what I am after. I don't have a rooted white COT, I am just sticking it in a pot now for you, so you could stick a red cutting in a pot for me. :) If the yellow one is solid yellow, I'll take that too, and I am bring you a yellow & pink one. I also went back to HD and picked up one of those crotons for you. :)

I have to say , when my original Costus barbatus began to produce growth from the leaf axils, I at first though those might be the beginnings of branches , but as they developed further, it was very evident to me that they were a form of "pups" or offsets! The clincher of course, was when they dropped off very easily with only a slight nudge and they did form a bulbous growth at their base right next the the leaf axils on the main stems. Are there many others that do this "pup" propagation as well, and I wonder why mine no longer has done that with any of the new plants from various root divisions over the years? Perhaps the plant needs some degree of stress (excess dryness perhaps) to encourage that pup formation. Just seemed sort of "neet" to me to have so many easily available offsets or pups , which rooted very quickly to start new plants.

Ginny, That is a Thai caladium. So is the smaller very dark red in the other pic. Maybe Prince Garnet? I lost my beloved pot of wrightii humboldtii in the freezes and my local supplier did not get them this year. Bummer. Thanks, Laura, I saw that look one time and copied it. They will sort of Bonsai themselves if root bound enough. Needs water when other things do so it is not too labor intensive. I keep looking for more of those pots (Target) but can't find them. Better then your standard 8" for that application. Susan, everything looks great! Never saw a better looking rose ghetto, either (new rose bed). Lol... I lost all those cuttings except Isabella Sprunt. She is in a large pot and outside my bedroom window. I open the curtain in the morning and see her. I know what I did wrong, though. My soil was too heavy. Do you have Souv de Francois Gualain? I am waiting on my first bloom. (I am conjuring up an idea...)http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/pl.php?n=12236&tab=1 Susie, Thanks for starting this. Your hibs are fab, esp that fav of yours. My gripe about them is the same. I won't be spending the cash on any more temperamental divas, though I love hibs second to roses. Did you know that there is a grower in Calif that only sells proven shrubs? http://www.exotic-hibiscus.com/ Proven as in frequent bloom, health and upright flowering. I promise to make my pics smaller next time. I finally learned how!

I don't know, I'm not quite seeing A. zerumbet there, but the pic's so blurry I'm not really seeing much of anything. It almost looks like someone pasted a gardenia flower on a ginger stem! Okay, maybe not... At any rate here's a nice picture of A. zerumbet to compare it to. You should be able to tell even if the individual flowers haven't opened yet-- it's pretty distinctive, although there's a number of other shell-types, most of which are more upright. Here is a link that might be useful: Alpinia zerumbet
