Banksia Roses for Brisbane?

Will yellow banksia roses grow in Brisbane metrop area?

I had white growing in Kilcoy, but a friend from Brisbane wants to grow yellow and has only seen white in her area.

Any advice most appreciated.

Now it gets more interesting, as I am seeing more losses of Noisettes, but not luteas. I lost the rose which was grafted onto fortuniana but not fortuniana. My Lady Banks are big and healthy as can be but the noisettes are suffering and some of the teas are not really really great this year, slow to get moving. We did have a cold winter, a very cold winter and we had snow at unexpected times, we had flooding. I think here, our winter was back to those in the mid 70s to 80s when we were returning to the ice age, just a year before it was predicted we were having global warming because of the unreasonably hot summers. Just shows to go ya, ya can never predict what the next politician is going to latch onto. Similar to the swine flu scare of the 1970s when the vaccination killed more people than the swine flu.

Lady Bank's rose is one of the easiest to propagate--the preceeding advice is very good. I use a mixed medium of 2/3 perlite and 1/3 vermiculite for rooting, but probably a lump of coal would work with this rose! A word of warning--a banksia gets VERY large and can eat a trellis or arbor. Within ten years it develops a trunk, can spread over 20 feet, and weigh a ton. Many think you can contain them with pruning--perhaps . . . .

I have 2 Banksia roses - the white and the yellow. I don't do anything special. Just water from ground level once a week when needed and throw a bit of rose food on them a couple of times a year. They definitely do not get the same treatment as my other roses and they thrive. The only gripe I have with them is they only flower for a few weeks a year, but the arch is always green and they are very easy to keep looking tidy. Regards Julia

I've got Honey screen in my natives garden and it's been growing steadily for about 2 years now. It's looking good and growing nicely with just a little prune once a year. It's facing north-east, just west of Tweed Heads, NSW.

I was just at Mitre 10 at Mt Gravatt and they had yellow banksia roses for sale. Went in to use the teller machine and walked out with Golden Celebration! Absolutely no self control!

Vee you are my kind of person, hubby says I have no self control when I see a plant,
And thats any plants not just roses, well it does make the garden look prettier.

Thank you very much for the info on where the yellow banksia rose can be found.
I have a friend visiting here (Cooyal - near Mudgee NSW) and she just loves the yellow banksia which is in its glory here at present. Now she can purchase some when she gets back to Brisbane.
I too am very fond of roses and enjoying early success as a new gardener with David Austin, Climbers, Standards and Weeping. Have lots of cow poo and mulch hay available and feel this has helped a lot.
