I received my 3 DAs from Wayside Gardens (last day sale) yesterday, planted them today after soaked them over night. Just received 2 bare root rose trees from JP today (ordered on their last day sale after 11:00pm :-), I was just testing them out, didn't think the order could go through). I have been watering all my newly planted bare root roses everyday. Helen, What's the temp in CA? You might need shade and a lot of water for those bare root DAs. What are the names of your DAs? I got Gentle Hermione, Olivia and Heathcliff.

kaleidoscope, I think "Pulich Children" is a HP, so it has different ancestry from most roses you probably grow in zone 9. In my limited experience in 8b/9a, roses with a strong China influence- including Teas- will grow a lot in cooler temps in Spring and Fall. Roses with OGR/European genetics might be more likely to see Fall as pre-dormancy, and will wait for Spring to get growing. If you don't see any growth by then, I would start to be concerned, but different plants grow on their own timetables. Looking forward to seeing pictures, Virginia

Hi! I'm in SE MI too. The best time to move roses is in the early spring, late March or early April, when the ground has thawed but isn't too muddy to dig in. If you do it early enough they'll still be dormant and won't even know you've moved them. But that will always depend on the weather and, hey, it's Michigan, so who knows, lol! It's still OK to move them even if they have started to leaf out some. You can move or plant in Michigan in the summer if it isn't really hot but you need to make sure they get a lot of water then. I don't recommend fall planting myself. I've had terrible luck with it. It seems like they just don't have enough time to really get established before winter and they don't make it through to spring. Good luck and keep us posted on how they do. I really like the Morden blush. It is the most productive rose of my small garden as it never stop blooming from june to september. It is not a very tall plant, I guess it won't surpass 4 feet and it does have rather ugly 'feet'. Nonetheless in a mixed border behind white salvia and in front of a taller plant it is really pretty and always in bloom. Health wise, it did have a lot of blackspot at the end of last summer but we had a horribly wet summer (the worst I can remember) and I don't spray. Also, my rugosa alba next to it was infested with aphids and mildew (don't worry it comes and go without any real impact, it is a really tough plant) but it never affected the Morden.
