Roses in the rain

Can I remember how to do this? A wet day and the roses are cheering me up. This is the view from my dining room The red one is Amadeus, the apricot on left is Crown Princess Margareta, white is Our Vanilla and the other apricot on the right is Claire. The odd ones are Apricot Nectar and Brass Band (orange)

And from the window the other side of the room is my 'red' garden. Fourth of July is looking sad in the rain taken through the window but still beautiful.

Very pretty Tricia what wonderful colours Amadeus is a striking rose and dominates that area.
The rain will do them good all the same..

A really beautiful display Tric,just in time for Cup day.
At first Sight and Lost in the Moment and listening to a Glass Harmonium to music thats Older Than Time a Americain might say whynot,Niwot?

Roses look so fresh in the rain, and seems they enjoy the shower. Their clor is much more vivid, deeper and brilliant, very nice pictures, love the effect of the rain drops on the petals, sparkling like crystals.

This is my first rose plant. It rained and it bent. What to do?

As long as the plant is still upright don't worry about the canes bending. They will straighten back up as the plant dries off. If the plant has fallen over then you need to stand it back up and re-bury the roots. Then I would stake it for a while until it has a chance to root better into the ground.

Yes, Toffee is a sweetie...he's the perfect dog. Sometimes too smart isn't the best..and he's not the smartest dog you'll ever see...while my female is uber smart. I give my dogs choices, and they pick what they want to do. My female, Jellybean, once found someone's keys in the field and on another occasion brought a puppy back to its owners. I tried to train her as a service dog for me for my mobility...she could do everything, but she was afraid of escalators. She was two at the time and had never seen one. She would turn me left or right on command. She was awesome. She can get me anything I want...tissue, remote control, socks from the pile of clothes, my shoes, anything I drop, etc. She's very smart! I agree with you!!! I love, love, love Chartreuse de Parme!! I am so glad I got it!!! However, Radox Bouquet (one of my new roses this year) has the best fragrance ever!!! Even in terrible weather, its scent is fabulous!!! Thank you so much!! Carol

Paula, thanks for the kind words! I've passed on your greeting to Ottavio. This is only the area around the house I've shown photos of, and it's the oldest part of the garden and by far the most mature. Much of the garden still needs another decade or two, but this part certainly offers its satisfactions. We're getting a respectable rain, not as much probably as I was hoping for, but that might provoke erosion, so our more moderate precipitation (it looks like it's going to be) will probably make the farmers happier than heavier rainfall would. It's forecast to rain through much of tomorrow, and I hope the forecast is realized. I too love persimmons. They're as handsome a tree as a person could desire, and the color is wonderful by any standards, but especially here where we don't get much fall color. Every fall I love the fiery foliage, luminous when the sun shines through it, and then falling and making a show with the silver-and-green foliage and cool pink blooms of the cyclamen that grows underneath it. Thank you Mary Ann and Chas. My goodness Chas, aren't you clever to put all the horses names into one sentence. Thing is, did you back the winner? I felt so sorry for the rider who came second. Also felt sorry for the rider who should have been on the winner, his folly cost him a lot of money and prestige

No Tricia, no bikkies this year but there's always next time.
I think i heard that there are 16,000 roses at Flemington and didn't they look great-plenty of horse manure I presume.

Yes the roses looked great, lots of apricot shades too I see. Wonder if they have many David Austins there, does anyone have any idea of which roses they grow?

The head gardener said they are mostly Floribunda because of
the longer flowering period. David Austins were mentioned but I can't remember what was said- too busy trying to pick a winner. Something i read or saw somewhere was that tea roses are so called because they originally came from China in the old tea clippers.
