The tree in that picture does seem to be very similar to Pinus strobus, but the needles did seem more relaxed and kinda floppy looking. The cones were held out on the end of the branches different it seems. The picture was just taken. A link to the Arboretum below (hopefully it works) listing what they have. I make no claims if they are correct or not. Here is a link that might be useful: link

Pat_tea ~ Welcome to the low or even no budget garden club where we spend more sweat than cash! You have an amazing amount of land & a great start by preparing the beds now. It's so exciting to create gardens & watch them grow. I've used lots of partially composted horse manure as bottom layers then added used coffee grounds from St*rbucks + shredded leaves to prevent weeds from sprouting through the manure. In a pinch you can use burlap bags as well to keep it moist & by spring you'll probably be able to plant right through the bags or if not decomposed you can lift off. The worms will love you for it! I have 3 ideas for you to garden on a budget and to shorten your winter. 1. Read this book by Marianne Binetti from Enumclaw, WA: Tips for Carefree Landscapes: Over 500 Sure-Fire Ways to Beautify Your Yard and Garden Her ideas help you decide on a style & what type of plants and focal points to use. She's helped me through the years think cheap & work smarter not harder. Grow plants suited to your site and when they're growing well you'll be able to divide & replant to complete sweeps of color. 2. participate in free plant swaps Most of us bring lots of plants free to good homes, so trades aren't necessary. 3. winter sow seeds from free seed swaps Go to GW's Winter Sow forum for info on how to do & the Secret Santa swap or newbie packs. Hope to see your pics posted here with plants in the spring! Here is a link that might be useful: free plant swaps in WA state

I have plans to work on the lay of the rocks a bit, using some smaller to get them to lay flat or such. As far as ground cover and trees go, I dunno. I have a large amount of ajuga waiting to be planted. I dunno if I want it there or not lol. Melissa, its planted under a water maple and I have no ideas for specimen trees. Before my hosta fanaticism I had a likin for japanese maples, and I see them in a lot of beds around hostas but I dunno about that either. I really would hate to smother the water maple. But I have no experience in that subject. I just know its root system is crazy and it always looses a lot of limbs. My little june has already been impaled once. I'm playing with the hand I'm dealt here.. on a budget just big enough to buy the soil, mulch and plants so my options are restricted. I am very lucky to have this supply of stone. Though I need to make more time to get more soon. Both my wife and I work and we just had our first child Fisher.. 10 weeks old this Tuesday so he's a handful. Initially I got into the hosta craze and started keeping up with this forum and browsing some other hosta sites and born the desire to aquire some hostas that I could identify. I pretty much wanted to construct a bed that would be a specimen bed. But possibly have a wave look after the plants matured So I figured the hostas of the year would be cheap and easy to deal with. But ground cover and other specimen plants aren't out of the question. I live in a quite redneck area full of albomarginata, hemerocallis, and iris so this kinda stuff is way over everyone's heads around here lol.. our local nursery had the aureos labeled green/white hosta lol. We do have the Bluegrass Hosta Farm but its like a 2 1/2 hour drive. So unfortunately some of my collection so far as been acquired through lowes, amazon and some mature divisions through hostasdirect. I do think I could identify disease pretty easily and also deal with fungus if I saw it. I think I'm pretty safe so far. All the plants have pretty much been flawless except for a slight fungus started on the fragrant. But I think I've got rid of that. I really like mulch... and gnomes lol. I wouldn't mind increasing my gnome collection and filling in the bare with a variety of gnomes. Possibly one for each specimen and somehow label the hostas with information written on the gnomes. Anywho... thanks for looking guys

Thanks guys, Jim they do have a true takil on the property of a pretty good size. It doesn't have all the hair coming out of the crown like regulars ones do. I couldn't get good photos cause all of there palms are growing in deep shade. Alex the size of there plants is amazing. Considering they are all outside in zone 7.
