Thanks Chas.. Yes they do look like that some of them..I am on a Art site and have lots of American friends and they talk about the flower images I submit and I was told they call them Paper Flowers over there, I thought that strange as I knew they call the Bougainvillea paper flowers, that's the worst about common names different places, different names.

You unearthed the ranculus bulb and it was healthy or was it the freesia? If it was ranculus and the bulbs look fine, I would keep the soil moist, but not wet (top can dry a bit, feel down with your finger and see how wet the soil is under the top layer) and then put in a slightly warmer or sunnier place. Until roots start growing the only loss of water will be from evaporation so you will need to check the soil before watering. I believe ranculus like heat and might wait for warmer conditions to emerge.

They might just lie dormant until it's cool enough to start growing. Hopefully they won't rot in the pots. I would not water and wait until fall to check for growth before watering again.

A gorgeous plant with those perfect little flowers. I used to have one in my previous garden. If memory serves it goes dormant at some point, correct? I never quite mastered how to deal with plants that do that.

Who grows Ranunculus?

My only success with ranunculus (other than buying in-flower plants!) was a spring plant which went dormant and then reappeared in the fall. I took it in and eventually had a flower form early next spring. Even on its best day it still looked more like a clearance rack salvage but I was extremely pleased. Plant them now in the greenhouse if you're going to try them. They need lower temps and flowering is day-length triggered. Anything over 13 hours of light will start them blooming... and if they're not ready they'll just go dormant or limp along miserably. For a winter grower in cool conditions with cool flowers I found poppy anemones (coronaria) to be a little easier, and dormant roots for them are also easy to find and inexpensive enough to mess around with.

Fantastic. I haven't seen such variety. Here, ranunculus seem to be cultivated as large full heads, meant to be cut flowers. Yours make me think of popies.
How lovely to see yours. I really appreciate seeing your blooms. Looking forward to more.
Thank you.
