This pic of Paul Cezanne really shows the pink shades that were not there last year.As the nursery said just wait a year...she was right.

A great show Michelle, I love them all. But I must admit to being a DA fan.
And I adore PA I nearly bought it but settled on Brass Band instead.
I will have to be content with looking at yours. Fiona's Wish still looking good.
Your PC is another very pretty one as you say worth waiting for.
Terrific bunch in the vase too...Cheers..MM.

usak, you are definitively growing very beautiful roses! I was happy when I read that you are also gardening organically like I do and proof the point that you can grow wonderful roses that way that don't have to fear the comparison with roses that get sprayed. You seemed to be really in love with Tuscany Superb and I can understand why. I was also blown away when I saw it the first time in person. Since I love white roses Bouquet Parfait looks really appealing to me. I have never heard of this rose. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Your hedge of Excelsa is absolutely stunning. It can't get more floriferous than that! That Paul's Himalayan Musk is breathtakingly beautiful, too! Another favorite for me out of the bunch that you posted is Johann Strauss. I really admire the delicacy of this rose and you captured it beautifully. Thanks for sharing your roses here, I hope we will see more of your roses in the future. Christina

It seems pollution is good for some trees?

This is an oldish paper that looked at cottonwood only, a ruderal species adapted to stress. We understand more about scavenging and LLO3 reactions now, and we have a better idea how these go forward - e.g. our native Gambel oak in the foothills are a source of Biogenic Volatile Organic Compounds, and tend to swamp scavenging reactions in certain conditions. Anyhoo, this was an early-ish direction of research to determine several things about trees in a future global change environment where CO2 is much higher, and consequently temps are higher (and thus LLO3 concentrations are higher). We know that LLO3 lowers carbon sequestration and some reactions in carbon-enriched atmospheres in many trees (and improves it in some), which has lots of policy implications, including species choice in cities. It is a partial driver of policy around here, as my BH runs one of the country's largest urban afforestation programs and she has to listen to me prattle on about such things. ;o) So the answer to 'is pollution bad or good', in some cases like this one, it is good but in the overwhelming number of cases pollution is bad. Her findings here and subsequently do not support loosening Air Quality rules. Or abolishing the EPA or other lunatic ideas being spouted early in the campaign season. [/geeky] Dan

Thank you all - you are very kind and generous. Msjam - yes I think I like Lady Emma better than Pat Austin, though to be fair to Pat, it does not get a lot of sun with the new grape arbour right over it and I've only had two blooms, they blew so fast I did not get a chance to enjoy them or see them well - on the other hand, the blooms on Lady Emma last a bit longer. jumbojimmy, I grow both The Prince and Falstaff - they are pretty similar in shape, the colour of Falstaff in my garden is more red, more like the colour of WS2000 while The Prince is more deeper - of course Falstaff gets more afternoon sunlight and The Prince gets afternoon shade. I have to make revision: from roses pictured above I currently grow only Excelsa, Paul's Himalayan Musk, Tuscany Superb and Crown Princess Margareta. The others had to leave because of problems with blackspot in my no spray garden. Jana

JWB thanks Its nice to present them as best you can I think.
MM...thankyou PA is going beserk this year and the colour is so rich.I think I planted it in a good spot.
Are you happy with Brass Band?
I would imagine they would be similiar.
The only thing is that DAs dont last long in the vase.Im lucky to get 3 days out of them in the vase.That even when the blooms are being supported by the neck of the vase:))

Yes I am very happy with brass brand Michelle no it is nothing like PA have a look below.
The only DA I have is Mary Rose she does marvelous here also, and lasts quite a few days in the vase.

Your vases, just beautiful :)
I can't wait for the roses, a few older varieties are coming out, but most are ready to burst with a bit of sunshine.

MM I think Brass Band is just as lovley as PA.It certainly has the colour and its a little different in the shape of the flower but I still think its a lovely rose.

steveTL Reconciliation is a fabulous rose.Most interesting colours dont you think?This is one of my favourites.The photo is bit glary and doesnt reflect the true mix of colours.I love the salmon colour in it.
