Sammy, From my short 10 years of experience with roses, I have found that a monoculture of roses are more prone to disease than a mix of shrubs. Further, if those roses you removed got RRD while in your garden, it is likely carried there by the wind. Planting more roses in that spot will almost guarantee more RRD in those roses. Wind currents don't change that much. I never replace such roses with more roses. Other shrubs such as mock orange, lilac, hydrangea, etc. will give you a healthier more versatile border. That's just my opinion for what its worth. So sorry for you lose to RRD. I just removed one such rose. I'm planting a berberis in its place. Barbara

I have them mostly in the front of the house in a 2-3' strip between the house and the driveway. I do like jkom, pulling them once or twice to keep them from overpowering existing plantings and thin them out a bit. I actually think they're kind of pretty and it makes me happy when they bloom cause they are a sure sign of spring. They do disappear as soon as the weather gets warm, so I don't find them too awful, esp. since they are contained in that area. wanda

Yes, Fleet is supposed to be early, 72 days. And, it looks like we'll have corn by the first of August - pretty darn good! But, these are tiny plants. I've got an ornamental corn in another location with some plants that are over 6 feet already. (I know, horse of a different color :o) Well, I didn't come up with over a million hits but got 267 for "sugar-snow sweet-corn seed." Even being that specific, many of the links are for "sweet corn" and "Sugar Snow Peas." However, you have found a source for me Bpgreen - - Swallowtail Seed Company certainly lists it in their catalog. I've never heard of this company - apparently they have "900 varieties of seeds!!" Where have I been? Ordered SS seed from Stokes for a number of years and from Jordan Seed after Stokes discontinued it. Jordan dropped it in 2005 and couldn't find it in any of the catalogs the mailcarrier delivers. I see that a number of university sites discuss Sugar Snow and that Mesa Maize developed it. Sugar Buns is listed as "similar" by Wisconsin U. Maybe that would be worth a try. I'm not saying that Sugar Snow is the Holy Grail; just that it produced the way I'd hoped. Since corn takes up so much space and will cross with nearby plants - I've only been able to grow a couple of varieties each season. Hard to figure things out this way, and disappointing to see the tried-&-true slip away. Apparently, that isn't quite the case. Thanks Bpgreen! Steve
