I wonder what you will come home with, I can't wait to see. I went out this morning &, like you, I see more spikes coming out on my tall beardeds. One that was already out for a couple of weeks & just stopped in its tracks is showing yellow at the tip. Not what is supposed to be there, so what else is new :) I swear those garden gremlins are out there moving my stuff around. I think I see purple showing on Daughter of Stars buds too. Coolish today, but supposed to be in the 70's & 80's the rest of the week, YAH! Should be perfect planting weather for all that you get. I don't think we will get a heavy enough frost to hurt iris buds. It has frosted a couple of times since the buds have been out on mine. Of course, the only tall bearded iris that has bloomed is Crimson King, & maybe that on is really an intermediate size. One plant has 2 severely twisted stalks. I don't know if that is due to cold or what.

I divide them about every five years, unless they get too crowded and stop blooming. If you plant them about a foot apart, it takes them a while to get crowded. For your zone, you should stay away from reblooming irises, since so many rebloom in late fall, too late for you. You can grow all of the median irises where you live, I believe. You may also be able to grow Siberians. Your photos are really beautiful- I'd love to see the rest of your garden! I have attached a link to my friend El's website in Canada- she grows irises that might do well in your climate. I wish I could ID those for you, but I'm not very good at it.
