I fertilized my roses with a rhododendron fertilizer

Colby, is the one cane black? It kind of looks that way to me.... if it is black then you will want to cut it down to where it is green. You won't need to cut the other one. I would also take off all of the dead foliage off the green cane. I would also take all of the dead foliage that is dropped in the pot. Is there a way you could take a picture of the dying foliage that is still on the plant? Can you look at it very very closely and see if you have teeny tiny bugs on it..... Instead of sunburn, I thought it might me spider mites... they will normally be on the underside of the leaves.... if you have spider mites you will need to get something to spray them with to get rid of them..... I use Avid.... though you can use neem oil.... there are other things that you can use too.... if you spray make sure you follow the directions on the label of the spray that you use...... this time of year, make sure you spray VERY VERY early.... so that the spray has a chance to dry.... and I would also move the rose into the shade after you spray it for a day. Next, make sure that your rose isn't sitting in wet soil. You want it moist, but NOT overly wet. The roots will rot if they sit in water... Instead of planting it right away if it has a dead cane on it that needs to be cut off, I would NOT plant it right away. Because if you cut a cane it will spend time pushing new growth instead of developing roots..... but if the cane is dead it needs to come off. Have you fertilizer it lately? If not, I would get two things to use while it is in the pot. I would get Superthrive and I would also get a fish fertilizer. Superthirve is really good for stressed out plants. So I would follow the directions and give it some IF THE SOIL isn't soggy. Then I would wait a week and give it the fish fertilizer. Instead of following the directions you want to see how much is recommended for a potted plant your size, but I would give it only a half strength because of the plant being stressed.... keep checking the soil DAILY to make sure the rose doesn't need water.... if it dose give it some so long as it doesn't get soggy (you should see a theme of NOT over watering), When the week is up, give it another half dose of fish fertilizer.... You will want to fertilize weakly WEEKLY as long as you keep it in the pot. The rose should put out some new green growth.... after you have quite a bit of good top growth, then I would plant it in the ground where you would like it..... normally where it will get morning sun.... has good drainage.... and space to grow..... Once you plant it in the ground give it another dose of Superthrive following directions. Also look up the thread on this rose forum that talks about alfalfa tea. One week after transplanting I would give a WEAK solution of the alfalfa tea.... the next week I would give it the weak solution of the fish fertilizer. I would follow the directions to prevent black spot disease..... then once your rose has bloomed take some good pictures and post them on the forum and maybe some can help identify the rose for you to determine if you need to keep spraying for BS..... you might have something that is resistant.... but if you don't know what it is, spraying for BS should not hurt it..... @rosecanadian Carol, I did think it's slightly hilarious that Iron Throne was mentioned. It's a new rose hybridized by Chris Greenwood, and hopefully will make it to commerce. Chris hybridized Ring of Fire, and it eventually made it to commerce in a big way. He's a back yard hybridizer, and a rosarian of great distinction in So. Calif.
