I do it all the time and never have a problem. If the first rose had a serious disease or died in its spot, I probably would not, at least not until I had addressed the problem in some manner. I have been told that there is some question about the existence of rose replant disease even in Europe. While the problem does indeed occur, some think it is a result of certain fertilizing practices rather than an actual disease. No specific disease causing organism has been identified. Perhaps someone with more direct knowledge than I have will speak up. Rosefolly

I only see evidence of a few hips from last year, my sense is that most drop off before setting. The bloom color does fade to a pale pinkish purple. There is some color variability between blooms and among the petals of one flower. The centers tend to be a bit more pale. Some petals are intense, almost magenta, and others are softer. On my computer the overall color in the earlier flower photos is less intense than in the garden, but these petal colors (from one bloom) seem fairly accurate. As for mildew, I cannot remember but I think so. I live in a high humidity area, so mildew and blackspot become an issue later in the season. Right now, the leaves look very healthy. We have Knockout rose in Israel. I dialed up some photos. It's very similar, but not the rose I'm interested in. I had to screw up my courage just to take photos. I'm not sure the people living in that building will understand I'm chopping off bits of their rose for propagation. They'll think I'm picking their roses. People in this city ended up in the ER for less :) As for TLC, the owners appear to favour tough love a- la-mow-and-blow. Could this rose be Red Simplicity? Kes Z, thank you It certainly matches the description of Orange Hearts. You have an observant eye to have noticed the heart shaped petals. One of the photos on HMF even shows the mauve hue on the petal's edge. It make sense that it would be a "found rose" because of the miss named shrub that I got my cutting. People will find a register name to put on a mystery rose so they can enter it in rose shows.
