Liliums

I grew some liliums last year for the first time, they were lovely. They now have all these little bulbs above the ground and I wonder what to do with them, do I leave them there or remove them and will the liliums still flower on the old bulb from last year?

You can plant these little bulbils in the garden or a pot. You will not get flowers on them for a year or two. Protect from snails.
Your original bulb will flower again.

You can put them in some good quality potting mix and grow them on - they will be a couple of years away from flowering size, depending on the variety. You can just cover them over with a little soil and leave them there, but the clump will get congested. You should still get bloom from the old bulb so long as the soil is rich enough to feed it, and you didn't cut back the green flower stalk. when you cut liliums you should cut no more than 1/2 the stem length, preferably less, so that the bulb can still draw nutrient from the stem.

I have a couple of those - new to me this year, along with a gorgeous downward facing Griesbach lily, 'Leslie Woodriff (named after the breeder of Stargazer)...which are actually saving my depleted home garden. I have always loved l.speciosa rubrum 'Uchida' - proved long lasting and vigorous so adding similarly coloured types has definitely created a more coherent look. I added a dozen new lilies on a whim this spring (so next year will be a truer test of how well they do|)...and combining with the numerous delicate salvia greggii blooms, my garden is having a welcome burst of brightness. These hybrid lilies (Lankon is one) have revived my interest in lilies after a long ftetful romance with tricksy species (numerous fails and miffs).

Madonna Lily - Lilium Candidum - BUNNY casualties?

NEVER before this year have bunnies attacked my Madonna lilies. I have tried to find out when the buds of these type of lilies form. The attached photo shows the carnage. The lilies were about 3" tall - normally they are not even growing much yet but this year everything is nuts here in NW Iowa. Have I lost the blooms for this year? Or haven't the buds formed yet? They normally bloom around the 3rd week for June for me. I'm just devastated. NO lily holds a candle to the delightful fragrance of lilium candidum! I've taken measure to ensure no further damage - I hope!

Are tiger lilies(lilium lancifolium) really deer resistant?

Something ate mine. I had to plant them in pots on my top deck.. I have deer that eat everything and what they do not eat the groundhog eat so since I did not see the deer eat them it could have been the groundhog. I have such a hard time gardening. I did not get to see one daylily bloom this year because the turkeys ate every bud before they opened, I know it was them because I came out and witnessed the attack as I chased them away.

thanks for that, I did cut the stems right back but not until they had almost died off and I also fed them well so hopefully they will still flower.

Hi Catiekay, I have 4 different colours of Lillums in my front garden, all I do every year is let the die down and I do feed them with potash from our winter fire and they multiply evey year the only problem I have is the possums eat the fresh tips ,and I have to be quick and rub Garlic cloves on them to prevent that ,good luck with yours they are a beautiful plant to enjoy
