A couple general thoughts regarding your questions since I know nothing about jaboticaba. As to your pruning, you say you removed dead, dried wood. This would be the same as getting your hair cut. So, what was removed will not stress the plant. If you prune into living tissue, then you would need to consider information on how well the plant tolerates pruning. The link to the Calif. Rare Frui t Growers article suggests it can be pruned, but with its recent drouth stess, you might want to let it grow for a while to recover before pruning into live wood to make cosmetic changes or correct any structural problems. The transplanting itself should result in minimal stress if you didn't break up the root ball. The possible air pocket underneath the tree is probably significant only to its size relative to the tree. Normally air pockets can be damaging to newly planted bare root tre es due to dessication of the roots. Since you planted a root ball, the danger to the roots would be at the exposed bottom of the rootball and the other 99% of the root ball shouldn't be at risk. If the pocket is relatively small compared to the size of the rootball, it shouldn't be of concern. Also, once you water the plant in well, the water will tend to move soil into the air pocket and the rootball will tend to sink into the soil underneath, closing the pocket. As a result, I don't think the air pocket would be of concern for more than a short time after planting and will disappear naturally in fairly short order. Just my thoughts.

Jaboticaba fruits are out of this world. But they don't last long off the tree. Also, the trees also grow very slowly. These two issues I heard were the primary issues with commercial production of jaboticaba fruits.

So far...the folks on the Yahoo group have only been able to agree that everything previously mentioned is not the plant. They're thinking some sort of hybrid but cannot nail down the name. It is definitely not a jaboticaba as we know them to be...and may not even be in the myrciaria group. I would let the sellers know that they are NOT selling jaboticabas! On the flip side though, you have a plant that is blooming/fruiting. If it tastes good, then great. Even then, you still may want to take this up with Jene's. You wanted a jaboticaba.

See this is what i mean, some people say they are awesome and others call them nothing outstanding. I don't know who to believe but i 'm happy with every response. Yes the thick peel seems to be unedible or at least not nice to eat but i'm not sure if that's also the case for the white jaboticaba. I know the tf-forum but i like to hear the opinion from a non-seedseller. I 'm a hobby grower and like to hear/give honest reviews. If i don't like a fruit then i just write it, no matter who or what is selling them. I don't like longkong or tamarind for example but loads of people luv those. I really like the way the fruit grows on the stem, there are not many fruittree's in Thailand who have that. Jaboticaba is for sale now as a novelty for a high price so i am in doubt if i need it or not. It is a black jabo that's all they know about it, no variety names. But i am very spoiled with fruit (living in Bangkok) and i am lazy to peel fruit and hate stains in my clothes from dripping sap. When i have to spit out seeds or peel all the time that doesn't make me happy. In that case i better grow another rare fruit. I have 5 white jabo seedlings now and they grow well. Faster then average which is about 30 cm or 1 feet a year. I hope to taste them soon.
