So far...the folks on the Yahoo group have only been able to agree that everything previously mentioned is not the plant. They're thinking some sort of hybrid but cannot nail down the name. It is definitely not a jaboticaba as we know them to be...and may not even be in the myrciaria group. I would let the sellers know that they are NOT selling jaboticabas! On the flip side though, you have a plant that is blooming/fruiting. If it tastes good, then great. Even then, you still may want to take this up with Jene's. You wanted a jaboticaba.

nice curious as to the variety ? Mine is Cauliflora / Red / Hybrid got it from Pine Island Nursery as a 3gal a year and a half ago. its fruited 3 times already... just 5-6 fruits at a time but its faster than i was prepared for. Now i need to put it in ground. trouble is finding an area with full sun, BUT, will not let the plant dry out if it doesnt rain in a few weeks time. i put 3 of the seeds in my seed-tray and BAM... all 3 germinated... (light pink leaves)

mine is in a pot and is going great. i didnt know about water myself for a while, so i watched carefully, and lots of water, or no water for days didnt seem to phase it either way. recently i read a post from someone i consider a tropical fruit guru. he said they can take LOTS of water, and are indigenous to places that flood for weeks at a time. The tree prefers a slightly acid soil, but i am thinking your manure should have made it slightly acid. do you know the PH ? i have heard of iron, phosphorus, magnesium and sulfur being used to help them. the iron and the sulfur can also help regulate (lower) pH simple epsom salt (i get mine from the $1 store) will give them magnesium and sulfur ! (it is magnesium sulfate, and it dissolves very easily) i use a tablespoon in 2 gallons of water. i love EPSOM. tomatoes take off with it. Papaya love it too. cant beat 1$ for several ounces i had iron as a vitamin pill,, so i broke it in 1/2 i used 1 half for a foliar spray, and the other 1/2 in a gallon of water and watered several plants. it brought my bell pepper, blueberry and grumichama all back to life :)

actually, come to think of it, i used about %20 local soil on that jabo the rest were bark fines and compost. most people suggest not using local soil becuase of weed seeds etc... i never have a problem with it. it always seems a great addition. i leave 1/2 inch on the top of my containers for mulch... no weeds and it keeps the soil cool. i bought it as a 3gal, and within 16 months had a dozen fruit the Jabo is in the middle of the pic. in a 7gal container. fruit and flowers. (small white bumps are flower buds). you can even see the tips of the leaves are burned when it didnt rain, and i forget to water it for a week.
