Kenny, when there's natural X pollination it's impossible to tell the degree of X pollination for any one fruit. The tomato ovary has lots of ovules. Each pollen grain fertilizes one ovule, and that's the seed to be. If self pollenization is complete, then all the ovules are fertilized, but any that aren't can then be X pollinated. And so there can be in any one fruit pure seed, some hybrid seed from parent X and sometimes even then hybrid seed from parent Y. I've had seeds that didn't show Xpollinated plants/fruits until several hundreds of those seeds had been distributed to others via my seed offers. So unless blossoms are bagged, never, but never save seed from just one fruit, better several fruits from one plant and even better several fruits from more than one plant so you dilute out any x pollinated seeds. if you save seeds from the red/orange CP, now the F2 seeds, and plant out several of those you're going to see different plants with different fruits, different colors, different shapes, etc due to segregation of the genes. Since you have no idea what the other parent is you can't predict what you'll get. if you want to make selections to get only that red/orange one, then at each generation you have to save seeds from just the plant that has those fruits, save the seeds, repeat each season and when all seeds planted give the same plants/fruits then you can consider it genetically OP. if you want a link to a site which explains gene segregation, I'd be happy to give you one, but right now I'm not sure which way you're headed with this. @judijunebugarizonazn8 @Elestrial 7a & Rosie Friends, I have 2 Chantal Merieux which are very cold hardy!! They get BS, but they bloom spectacular and have great form in bushes & bloom profusely! They are one of my best florist roses as of May 2026, now! This will start their 3rd year. I will take them both to PNW. I think I am moving in June-hope. Right now they are both fully 3ft & leafed out, since they did well during our very cold NY winter. 2024 first blooms Judy, Love your very full bloom. Photos!

I too ordered the Brindebella Purple Prince from Hirt's, and now I'm wondering whether Hirt's is mistakenly misrepresenting it as the "Purple Prince" rose by Nola Simpson from New Zealand. Anyone know? There is a "Brindebella Purple Prince" sold wholesale by Sun Fire Nurseries in the U.S., and that's what appears to be the rose sold by Hirt's: http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=2.72335.2&tab=1. I'm certain this is the Hirt's-sold rose, because Hirt's sells another rose from the "Brindebella" line that Sun Fire Nurseries markets. There is a different "Purple Prince" rose bred by Nola Simpson in New Zealand and sold by Style Roses in the U.K. That's the one with the impressive photos, claims of very strong fragrance from 6"-inch blooms. http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=2.72745&tab=1. But the "Brindebella Purple Prince," according to the info from the patent application that is on HelpMeFind.com, was bread in Australia by Sylvia and John Gray, and the blooms are only 4". Maybe someone at Hirt's marketing team Googled "Purple Prince" and then copied and pasted the info and photos from the Style Roses website in the U.K.? Oh well. The Brindebella looks great too, and the patent application claims "complete" resistance to black spot and strongly fragrant blooms. Sounds good.

Yes, both of you are looking at varieties of G. damsii. You are probably right. Only the dots I cannot place. Funny thing is, I did not get any gymno vibes from it, but now that you guys mention it, I see it. I was thrown off by the triangular shape of the tubercles. But Ariocarpus and Obrigenia did not lead anywhere, plus they would be pretty unlikely to be thrown in as a bonus. It is a cute little thing, and the lucky recipient already said it may be some kind of hybrid, coming from Thailand. Thanks, Alain and Kara, I knew someone here would set us on the right path ;-) !
