NZ cabbage tree (cordyline)

Have any of you ever struck branches form a New Zealand cabbage tree (cordyline australis)? My in-laws cut their tree down (it was about 5.5 m tall) and I didn't want any of it to go to waste so we stuck a few branches in pots and I was wondering if I should put the rest in as well. I haven't got anymore pots that are big enough so I was going to stick them in the ground as they are. Do you think they'll take? I want to keep one or two but in October I am having a plant sale and thought I might get something for the others if they do alright. How much should I expect to get for them? They are taller than me (not difficult, I'm only 5ft 2) and each has a good head. I hope they take.

Donna.
