delbard roses

hello everyone

I was in kmart last week and picked up two potted delbard roses that were a bit droopy for $6.00 each,( just needed a drink) one was called

"pimprenelle" the other called "paris" even though the labels were on them I am just wondering if anyone has grown them and what they are like

delbards have always been out of my price range so grabbed them when I saw them

thanks

Lucky you Lorraine. I am keen to grow pimprinelle but want to find out how it grows to decide where to put.

Way to go Lorraine-I paid $23 for a delbard at Kmart last week.Swore I wasn't going to buy roses this year but this one had a bloom open and I fell deeply in love.
The name is Chandon Rosier and it has incredible blooms.
I haven't got either of the ones you scored but I am sure they will perform wonderfully-the 4 that I have are all vigorous and healthy.

Most of the Delbard's are being grown sucessfully in Canada. In France their test fields regularly get to around 5 Far. They have also been growing them in Moscow for the last 3-4 years. As with most roses the yellower ones will be more tender than the others. Hope this helps.

Anyone grow Delbard roses (like Dames de Chenonceau)?

Dames de Chenonceau my absolute favorite rose. I have 2. One is in a huge pot and its about 3.75 feet tall and wide. It shrugs off disease and always has the largest most sumptuous blooms that last well in the vase as well as on the bush. I also have one in the ground that has stayed about the same size except for a few long canes that shot out to about 10 feet tall and I draped them over an arbor that was close by. These giant canes bloomed more often than the rest of the plant. Had I wanted to keep it compact I would have just pruned the down, but I love this rose so much I let it grow and will continue to let it grow as much as it wants. I would like to grow more Delbards as most of the ones I have tried have been great. Nahema for instance is another wonderful rose and has also done very well for me. I am hoping the nematodes don't ever get to either of these roses because they are both in the ground, but I keep them growing in lots of organic matter so hopefully they will stay far away.

Delbard roses in Florida

I'm not in Florida, but my area is hot and humid and thunderstormy in the summer, so our summers are somewhat similar. I grow Juliette Greco and Pierre Gagnaire. They are more disease-resistant than Austins, I'd say. PG is bulletproof, and JG only gets minor bouts of BS. They are both very vigorous. The thing I notice most is that they are both so much taller than the listings say they should be. They are both pretty huge and could be used as climbers. PG is slower to build back up again, but Juliette goes right back to being a climber after being pruned short. PG tries to set his gorgeous hips from the 1st flush on, so he also requires deadheading to keep up the really good blooming. I leave the late-season hips! They are fat and pretty :)

Yes they are expensive.
Last week I paid $28 for a fantastic potted Paul Cezanne with lots of buds....but....I also ordered a Chartreuse De Parma as well!!!
I think when the roses give everyone so much pleasure it is worth it. And when I think of the money I would spend if I was a smoker etc I think it is money well spent.
Gardening is a healthy wonderful habit/obession so I say--go for it!! especially if the roses are Delbards!!
