Most of the Delbard's are being grown sucessfully in Canada. In France their test fields regularly get to around 5 Far. They have also been growing them in Moscow for the last 3-4 years. As with most roses the yellower ones will be more tender than the others. Hope this helps.

All you need to know is, "the delbard rose" is another class of roses. You've got David Austin roses - which usually associate with "English" roses. Here, the Delbard roses - associate with the "French" roses and is bred by the Delbard family. There are about 3 main groups of the Delbard roses: 1) "The Delbard Painters Collections" Most roses in this section are named after some famous painters like Henri Matisse, Camille Pisarro etc. The flowers tend to have stripes - which does in fact looks like it has being painted on. 2)Delbard Couture Collection - don't really know much about them. All I know is, they don't have stripes, and the colours of the flowers tend to be dazzling. I'm thinking of getting Carmagnole - a new 2007 release. 3)Delbard Grand Parfums Collection - here you have strong perfume roses such as dioressence, souvenir de louis amade etc. Again, no stripes. 4)Delbard Rose de Libertie Collection - no scent - but masses of bloom. ie. paris 2000. This is Carmagnole - from the Couture collection - new release.

I've grown all three you mention and they're all BS resistant, more than most roses. Like Predfern I really love Nahema, and it grows quickly and blooms very nicely off and on all season. Madame Bovary is a very nice climber also - in its second year, it was blooming all along the fence in my "secret garden" photo. Both have very double blooms and are basically trouble free and hardy. Souv. de Louis Amade was one of the least exciting Delbards I grow - it was supposed to be lilac purple but was just a washed out white. When it didn't overwinter after 2-3 years, I didn't bother replacing it - and I LOVE Delbard as a breeder, so that was a tough admission. Dames des Chenonceau is still relatively young in my yard, but has overwintered well and is BS resistant. Delbard, like Kordes, is a good rose breeder for cold zones with BS pressure, since they're usually both hardy and disease resistant. Hope this helps! Cynthia

I got some new ones in last spring and was delighted with all of them. Chartreuse de Parme was my favorite, just a gorgeous color, very full blooms, intoxicating scent and the blooms were extremely long lasting. I remember the fragrance persisted for at least a week. The plant seems to have good vigor too. Dames de Chenonceau is gorgeous, Henri Matisse has big striped blooms with good repeat, Nahema has a powerful fragrance , exquisite beauty and good vigor. Alfred Sisley is one of my favorite striped roses. It's incredibly healthy, repeats fast, love the colors, and it has a lot of hips in fall. Makes a good shrubby plant. I'm impressed with Delbards.
