first bulb flower

These little fellows appear every year whilst my big planting of bulbs is still about 6 weeks? from flowering.Funny about bulbs. On Google one bit of advice was not to feed bulbs.the next offering said that the reason bulbs did not flower was because they were not fed!

Chas you feed them once they have flowered and then they take the nutrients in, to flower next year.

Great to see these blooming Chas..

Strange that about different ideas though I have noticed its the same with lots of plants.

I do things to my plants other people would never dream off like dig up roses on 35 deg days and transplant them somewhere else.
They still survive as I water them everyday for a few weeks. Though for some strange reason all advice is only dig up in the Winter.

So to each his own Chas only you know what works best in your garden..

I so agree with Flora that the second is most probably the horrible invasive Ornithogallum umbelatum, Star of Bethlehem. My property here is infested with it something awful and I spend days and days, for months, (from Feb thru May) each spring digging it out to clear a bit more area that will be free of it. I refuse to ever plant anything again in soil that is infested with the nasty bulbs. Please destroy them and please do not trade them. Below is a pic of my front yard. There are so many clumps of the star of beth, that I can't get grass to grow. The darker spots are clumps of bulbs that are maybe 4"-6" across below the ground And yes, it is advisable to start a new thread rather than adding on to an old one. chemocurl...aka Sue Here is a link that might be useful: More about my Star of Beth rant

They are lovely I would like to see one with leaves too. Good luck with your show. Besure to keep us posted. Kim, fyi: The pvc pipes that I attached the garden signs that I made for a local shelter held up pretty well except where they got snowplowed. I used automotive goop on them. I posted the tutorial from my blog below. Scroll down through part 2 to part 1 where I talk about attaching the pipe fittings. WOW RITA !!!!!you have some very pretty blooms again today,and by the looks of all them buds I seen in 2 of the pictures, you are going to have blooms for some time to come yet.DIMPLED CHEEKS is very pretty, and LAST REWARD, too.HARD TIMES and AUGUST FLAME, I love the colors of them, just not the form.Guess thats what is called SPIDERS?The red color is very pretty, I jst love BEAUTIFUL EDGINGS..Mine was planted and it kept looking worse and worse, till it got down to one tiny leave left,and I thought,I have to do some thing with it,as I dont want to loose it, so dug it back up and put it in a pot, poured root stimulator on it,and now it has 5 nice big fans and a nother small one coming on it too.CHINA BRIDE is a beauty.I just love it.Mine rebloomed on 3 scapes.It still has one bud left on it..Wow, That HARLANDS PRIDE is gorgeous.Thats my favorite along wirh BEAUTIFUL EDGINGS. Hi Rita, I'm worried about you girl! I am thinking of you as we wait for the hurricane. My favorite of these is 'Olallie Keith' and I'm slightly annoyed that they don't seem to have it this year (or Vt Butterscotch Harvest)...at least I don't see it on their website. I noticed when I visited their fields, they had lots of yellow tags on rows of daylilies and those were the ones they were sold out of and only had enough to hold for increase. I searched for 'Olallie Keith' when I was there but didn't find it (although it was 90 degrees that day and my husband was itching to leave so I may have missed some things). I also like Fountain of Life and Hard Times. Celeste

Hi Chas,

My hyacinths sprouted leaves more than a month ago. They're only now showing signs of producing flower stalks.

The photo you posted is of cluster geranium daffodils. They're my favourite bulb. I bought some in the autumn from Tesselaar's bulb nursery in the Dandenongs - the place they hold the tulip festival in spring. Mine haven't emerged yet, but the anticipation is the thing I love most about winter.

Only about ten of the 40 Earlicheer I planted last year have come up this year and I let the rot down by themselves without chopping off half the leaves as I generally do. Isn't that a pretty sight to see though, yours are so dainty.
