He is a tall shrub-some grow him as a climber.The blooms are big,bold and spectacular.This is a healthy vigorous rose.

He owns a place in my heart. :)

cheez sandie.....can you come over to perth and spend a few day's taking photo's of our roses?.....put a "mermaid in the picture and i'm in heaven

Thanks, everyone. I have looked at pics of Dainty Bess, and they are all pale pink - my rose opens dark peachy/orange, and then fades to medium and then light pink. I tried to post more pics, but it didn't work. I have lots more and will post more in 2 weeks, after my next lesson at the Apple store - we have signed up for several "one on one" one hour sessions with technicians, and they will help you with anything you want (that's how I got the one pic posted). I got this "wrong" rose many many years ago - I think it WAS in 1998. I did call Heirloom just to inquire as to what it might be, not to get a replacement, but got no response. Anyway, I do not want Altissimo - I am happy with this one, just curious as to what it might be. Stand by for more pics! jackie

I doubt that it's voles or similar since there's no history of those critters in this area at all. The bud union is above the soil. Two of the six canes are only green at the bottom few inches, and then are reddish-brown to dead gray. The other four canes look dead. It made such strong growth every year, and, surprisingly, we have had one of the mildest winters in years, as has most of the country. I haven't cut the canes yet, since there is so little of them left, but I would think that at the green parts there should be healthy tissue right through. I just don't know if it's enough to regenerate strong growth.

hi linda, I am in Ohio, used to be zone 5 but they are saying we're zone 6 now. Altissimo is a tough rose I have moved it 3 times and it is hanging in there and starting to take hold. It dies to the ground in a bad winter so you may need to winter protect if you live in a harsh area. But it seems to bounce back well each spring. roseberri

Amadeus. Blooms are both large in size and formed in large clusters. They last for weeks on the plant even in high heat and do not burn. It is also a pure red and striking in the landscape. It also repeats very well and heavily. The disease resistance is remarkable and it is both vigorous and with better than average winter hardiness (granted not a concern for you). If I had to pick only one red climber in my garden, this is the one I have and I already grow Quadra and another good one, Dublin Bay. Honourable mention to Red Corsair, but it wants to be more of a huge shrub than a traditional climber/pillar rose. Here is a link that might be useful: Amadeus

LOL Brenton-I lived in Perth most of my life til I moved over here around 6 years ago.All you need is a flatbed scanner-not a camera.:)
Young Quin-I can't remember if he has perfume-maybe someone else can?Another one who doesn't need it really. :)

What a lovely rose it must be in the perfect spot as I grew one in the past & it was dissapointing but ha yours proves it is a beauty after all
