That photo doesn't look like normal nitrogen deficiency to me. I think it may be a potassium or micro-nutrient deficiency. I'm just guessing without knowing more about what they're growing in. The beans sound to me like aphids and spider mites. check the underside of the spotted leaves for small red arachnids. My bitter melons took a long time to do much of anything but the weather warmed up for the past couple of months and I have fruit bursting all over now.

Alocasias aren't like most houseplants, they love heat and they love humidity. Mine have gone dormant, but last summer, they were growing leaves like crazy. It gets very hot and very humid here where I live in the South. As long as I kept their soil well watered and didn't let them dry out, they absolutely loved it. This year, I plan on repotting them all together into one larger pot and place them in my greenhouse which I just bought an electric heater for. It keeps it warm and toasty in there, as well as very humid. My other plants love it, so I know my Alocasias will too.

Last winter I had 3 small Colocasias indoors and they would only hold a 3rd leaf for 1-2 days after the newest leaf unfurled. So maybe yours is just getting acclimated to the winter light...which will increase after tomorrow. But the correct amount of water is a challenge. It seems I may be giving mine too much even with being mindful of not overwatering. Here are my indoor EE leaf statuses which I hope will help you gauge how your Amazonica is doing: Large Colocasia- 4 not so impressive leaves Large Alocasia m. 'Borneo Giant' pup - 2 nice leaves Small Alocasia. m. 'Black Stem' pup - 1 nice leaf Small Alocasia calidora pup - only 1 petiole whose leaf browned & died as a spike (so nothing coming out of the pot but a single green stem) Small Colocasia e. 'Mojito' - main plant rotted at base from too much water and attached are 2 sickly pups. It smelled like a damp cellar yesterday so I took it out of the pot to look at it and saw the rot. I re-potted it with a more aerated soil and will back off the water. Small Yautia - keeps 2-3 good leaves...this is the only EE that was potted before bringing indoors

Need2SeeGreen -- I just got the mixes in today and they appear to be all the right sizes and are pre-sifted. The only bummer is I believe there is a little bit of sapwood in the bag of bark (but not in the gritty mix) -- the light colored bits. Should I pick those out when I make the 5-1-1? There's not a ton of them, but I remember reading most recommend removing it. For 5-1-1, I got bonsaijack's pre-sifted bark and perlite, and I'll buy the peat and lyme locally. For gritty, I just did a "custom mix" on their site as it was cheaper for 3.5 gallons "custom" mix than buying the ingredients from their site individually (go figure!). This way I was able to get the exact ingredients. I wanted the granite because it's heavy (my Jades need heavy mix to hold them up!). If you're looking for something light-weightm, the bonsaijack succulent mix appears identical except instead of granite it contains "Bonsai Block" (calcined clay), and it's suppose to be very light weight. If you have a ton of plants buying from them will probably be prohibitively expensive, but for my smaller apartment plants it was worth it! I'm making up my 5-1-1 mix this weekend and repotting, and will keep this thread updated so others can learn from my experience with the alocasia frydek and if repotting it fixes it! (it's still losing 1-2 leaves a week).
