Mucuna bennettii (Flame Vine)

I have recently moved to the rainforest village of Kuranda just north of Cairns. In the garden is a Schefflera or Queensland Umbrella Tree (Brassaia actinophylla) covered with a vine. The previous owners, who were not gardeners, told me that it had red flowers on it in winter. This vine has just come into flower and is covered with the most spectacular flowers I have ever seen. It is Mucuna bennettii (Flame Vine). A.B. Graf in his book Tropica describes it as Âprobably the most showy of all tropical climbers and it certainly is! Why is it not more popular? How can I propagate it as I am sure my friends would like one? I am going to plant a Jade vine (Strongylodon macrobotrys) on the Schefflera next to it which should look really stunning!
