Awww how cute! Love the mourning doves! Melissa, I'll have to research about torties. I have one beautiful girl myself. As I'm typing this, she's sitting here rubbing on me and getting in my way. She's not an outdoor kitty. All our cats are indoor cats. Ginger is my favorite. But she's quite the psycho kitty. She will be all loving and climb up on my chest, nuzzling my neck.. But if I touch her wrong or say the wrong thing... she swiftly swats at my face (claws out) and hisses and jumps away, only to come right back up all lovey dovey again. Sometimes she gets mad if I try to move her when she's in my way at the computer. Then she'll hiss and growl and get all pissy, and even act like she's going to reach out and claw the crap outta me. I will scold her and tell her to knock it off, and you can just see, she wants to be good, and she knows she's being a brat. But it's like she just can't help it! Beautiful, but crazy psycho kitty! Maybe it's because she's a calico/tortie blend. I call her a "tortico." And she has that almost-chimera face. I'm thinking that's why she's so psycho! Ginger

i have no water .. but am near natural ponds ... the turtles.. leave the ponds.. to come to my sand.. to lay eggs ... in late spring i have to watch out for the quarter sized babes returning to the ponds ... snapping and painted, i believe ... i also do duty.. by getting them off the road.. and heading them in the direction i hope they are going ... its kind of amazing how many peeps cant apparently see a 6 inch turtle in the road ... thx for the post ... very cool ken

I think it was probably a raccoon. I had a coon kill 2 of my chickens in a very secure run (well, I guess not secure enough). I buried them fairly deep and put fencing over it. In the morning, the bodies were gone......not a feather left behind. I think coons carry off their kill sometimes and eat it elsewhere.

What a heart-warming and joyous post to return to! It now has everything, not only the adorable baby bunny in the process of growing up, but toads, doves and now lovely furry indoor friends. I might have mentioned that my fur person, Jason, who was declawed by a former owner, left through an inadvertently left open screen on a French door (partly the window cleaner's fault and partly mine), survived for two weeks in an area populated by coyotes, bobcats and mountain lions and returned dehydrated, hungry and covered with fleas but otherwise intact. It is amazing what even a sheltered house cat retains of survival instincts, although many in a similar situation don't survive their first night, and I give Jason credit for a good amount of native intelligence and cunning.
