Can someone tell me when to harvest Jackfruits and Breadfruits:so far they have hit the ground in a big mush and I missed all of them.

Would like to pick for home consumption.

First sign is change of colour, you can smell them and they give a little bit when pushed.It is a bit difficult when the fruit is high on the tree but this year most of my fruit is only several inches from the ground!

Well, you can still use the young fruit for your curry, (no need to remove the seed) - it's delicious.......

hi Nat, this is an old post but I was wondering how your seedlings are doing? Did you end up transplanting? I have a few seedlings and I'm wondering if it's worth transplanting / keeping them? Someone told me recently that jackfruit seedlings actually take only couple of years to produce as oppose to most other fruit! Of course I'm doubtful and would love to know how yours did :)

I have a couple sprouted inside this winter in climate zone 10 in Australia because the seedling plants don't like it when the temperature gets down below 10°C,it can get down to 2°C overnight which has killed my jackfruit seedlings in the past. I plan to keep mine indoors for about 1 year until they grow to about 1 metre in height & about a 10-15 millimetre trunk width, even in summer if it rains they can get the brown spot disease & root rot so it's best to keep them sheltered & water sparingly during summer when they're seedlings !

That reminds me of my cherimoya trees. I have 4 seedlings. 2 are almost 2 yrs old (3' tall) and other 2 are 4 yrs old (4' tall) but the trunk are not as thick as the younger trees. The 2 older trees - the owner said the mother tree did not produce much fruit - that should of been my clue to step away but I was desperate to have cherimoya trees and I didn't want to waste my 1/2 hour trip driving there. The 2 younger trees are from the same person and seemed more vigorous and faster growing than the 2 older trees. I can't wait to get fruit. I know it's another couple years. All are pretty leggy. Should I heavily prune them to try to them to grow bushy? I've only prune them a little bit.

They were spouted by myself last year in 6" pots. Well,they hated the winter indoors as mealys nearly killed them. Then,they had to adjust to the outdoors this late spring- all the leaves burned off. But,I notice new green leaves had sprouted so I thought go ahead and plant them now. The funny thing is- there was only like 3" of soil in those little pots left. We will see. I wish I had bought a 5' plant 3 years ago for sale. It was the first and last Jackfruit I've seen for sale. I was also told small seedlings are MUCH more cold sensitive. Oh well..go with what you got -right? Maybe by November..when things slow down,they will be well rooted and gallon can sized? Bay Area Jackfruit tree's..will be a huge stretch.

oh stop it! you guys are making me so so SO jealous...jackfruit is my weakness.

jackfruit here (non frozen and actually FRESH) is only available like, from june to october, and it costs around $10 per kilo...

what does it cost up there???

free from my tree..... if you want to get them yourself. I have heaps at the moment.

oh man...ari, if i was close enough, i would come and get some from you...

let me ask you: when you first planted your jackfruit tree (was it from seed or cutting?), how long before you got fruit? and how many fruits per tree? do fruit bats attack your tree???

heh...maybe we can hook something up where we can arrange for you to ship it to me or something...heh.
