Jackfruit Seedlings

I planted these seeds, from a MAI-1 ( that's what Excalibur told me they jackfruit was) about a month ago and they sprouted nicely. There are some curled leaves. Does anyone know what that is or how to treat it? Also, when would I separate the seedlings and how large do they need to be before planting in the ground? I have never planted seeds before but since I bought a whole jackfruit, I thought it would be a waste to throw them out..

Very nice looking. I'd not worry about the curled leaves. You could separate them now.

Thank you for all your input. I was given the peniwaraka as honey jackfruit and she said she got the seeds from malaysia. I looked online but didn't find much other than honey is peniwaraka. My NS1 was from a fruit I got locally last year and started a few plants. It is the only jackfruit I have ever eaten so my experience is very limited. I thought it was a gonner so I happily accepted the honey. Of course the NS1 jumped back to life when it saw there was a new guy in the garden. Harry would you plant an NS1 again? Nana or anyone I am a little lost at "firmer type as opposed to the fiberous soft and slippery variety(wela)." what catagory would the NS1 fall under? Is seemed kinda gross or slippery when I was cutting it up but I don't know if some are even more so. I am going to try searching with nana's spelling and see if I find more info that way. Again thank you for your help.

I don't think it will matter either way. I have quite a few jackfruit seedlings that have been topped after failed graft attempts and they all seem to just regrow another central leader and continue to grow straight up. The only ones that I have been able to get to brach out nicely are the grafted ones.

They were spouted by myself last year in 6" pots. Well,they hated the winter indoors as mealys nearly killed them. Then,they had to adjust to the outdoors this late spring- all the leaves burned off. But,I notice new green leaves had sprouted so I thought go ahead and plant them now. The funny thing is- there was only like 3" of soil in those little pots left. We will see. I wish I had bought a 5' plant 3 years ago for sale. It was the first and last Jackfruit I've seen for sale. I was also told small seedlings are MUCH more cold sensitive. Oh well..go with what you got -right? Maybe by November..when things slow down,they will be well rooted and gallon can sized? Bay Area Jackfruit tree's..will be a huge stretch.

We're going to buy a house with a garden and a (future) greenhouse. So I hope they stay small enough for another year and then they all get big pots and some space to grow ;-) And in a few months when spring arrives I'm going to put the biggest ones outside if they don't fit there anymore (like the Jackfruit for example).

Jakfruit seedlings should be planted out as soon as possible. They love the space and as long as they don't dry out or freeze, they'll thrive.

hi Nat, this is an old post but I was wondering how your seedlings are doing? Did you end up transplanting? I have a few seedlings and I'm wondering if it's worth transplanting / keeping them? Someone told me recently that jackfruit seedlings actually take only couple of years to produce as oppose to most other fruit! Of course I'm doubtful and would love to know how yours did :)

Judging by my jaks the "couple of years" applies to EVERYONE but me My gold nugget is in ground since 2011 and this is my first year I will get edible fruit. my . Bangkok lemon was fairly large in 2014 and planted and is pretty big now but has no hint of blooming.
