Blue and White Cut flowers

Hi

I have a friend who has an elderly mother in Brisbane, who cannot do a lot in the garden. She really loves getting fresh flowers from the garden, but the plants must be low maintenance. Her favourite colours are blue and white. As I live up north where the climate is fairly different, I thought I might seek some help.

Can anyone suggest something?

If you go to www.bluestoneperennials.com and type blue flowers in the search bar---a whole bunch of blue flowers that they have will come up----2 pages full. They have a penstemon called Electric Blue that I have been drooling over for sometime for your electric blue. It is not on the blue flowers pages though---don't know why. Anyways----might give you a few more ideas. I ordered some of their anchusa for this spring. Beautiful blue!!! Best Wishes! aunt_lou

Is there a certain way to cut flowers on established Nikko Blue?

IÂ´d say cut all the way down to a couple of leaves with good buds between them. YOu can actually prune now. If you wait for autumn or next spring you will lose the flowers next year. After cutting the flowers hold them for a couple of hours completely immersed (stem and all) in cool water. The bathing tub is a good place ;-)
