Hi have only been growing this type for a couple of years . Was disappointed that they are not evergreen as hyped BUT they do extend the life a couple of months . They do come in some very exotic colors (not mine) lol Such as blue black browns and the series called "stained glass are works of art lol gary

BKay, I really feel for you. I know you do not go off "half cocked", and you consider long before taking action. I have NO local nurseries selling hosta, except for sometimes Lowes. The ones I got from there I immediately tested for HVX. Perhaps they feel if they give a year warranty to return plants dead or alive is good enough. However, I've never had to report to the AL DOA about anything. I had a virus on some hosta in 2013 mail order, but dates escape me now. It was not HVX. I think you and I and other container hosta fans are better off than most "grounders", because our plants have a built in isolation from the roots of other hosta which limits spread of the disease, when/if we find it present. As for ordering, I have a bit of Irish luck with delivery. Most arrive nicely when shipped via USPS because I have a great postman--he is due to retire in December though. He brings my plants early because he recognizes plant containers. His relief has no such consideration. I have on occasion asked for overnight air delivery when it is an option, which is extra but when I make an EMERGENCY ORDER after it gets hot, that is what it requires. My last such order was on June 20, shipped on June 23d, delivered June 24th. I have a few nurseries that I always call in the order, especially to talk to the folks. Whether it be hosta or other plants, they generally are great people who will accommodate my requests. When I ordered the columbines and clematis from the nursery in Zeeland MI delivered last week, I got the best packaged most lively plants in all the years I've mail ordered stuff. They were in pots too. No damage, neither broken nor heat exhaustion. Those folks were PROFESSIONAL NURSERY people! Not a huge nursery I don't think, but definitely well run for the benefit of the customers. Nice mail order operation through the Internet. Getting Master Gardeners involved sounds like a good option. However, are the ones in your area like the ones in Mobile, who say "You cannot grow hosta here?"

That looks great! I'm still working up the nerve to pick things up from the curb. I missed my chance a couple of weeks ago at the house just across the street from me. A great chair, headboard,etc. I t was late when I got home & was gonna get it in the morning, well......morning was too late. Seeing this will make me get it when I see it. Great job & for free too!

Pqsmom, I'm so happy you love your Buckingham! I can't wait for mine. I'm still not 100% at ease, but doing better. There have been a few snags (what a surprise since that never happens right?). For example in spite of asking the owner of the cabinet shop about 7 times if she was sure she had made the trash cabinet big enough since I thought the Rev A Shelf website saying the opening had to be 15" meant it needed a 16.5" cabinet, she repeatedly stated her specs said a 16" would be fine. Well, installer agreed with me since the trash didn't fit. Now they are going to have to re-cut that cabinet, adjust some stuff and re-order the door. They also sort of forgot to make the fridge cabinet or order the doors for it. Whoops. Anyway in spite of those and a couple other issues, they were still able to come out to template so at least the mistakes won't mean I have to wait even longer for my Buckingham - just as long as it takes to re-cut and install the messed up cabinets. I found the templating interesting since it sort of looked like two grown men doing a big arts and craft project, using plywood boards instead of toothpicks! But maybe that's just the renovation insanity setting in.
