Tree Dahlia

This flowers once a year, and then you've just got to wait 12 months for it to happen again. Gorgeous flower! I have to point the camera directly above my head to capture the blooms!

That is lovely. We have several types of dahlias, but nothing like this.

Nice picture Bill The tree dahlias can grow quite tall.We had them in the front but they used to fall over into the street so I removed them.We used to propagate by using a few sections of the trunks? and laying them flat
in a small trench and they sprouted easily. Yours is a very good shot
and a nice colour.

Since you are in FL, your tree dahlia probably blooms; I'd love to see that. I have a very healthy lt pink, and since I am in Oregon, if the summer is nice & hot, in October it will put out 1 or 2 blooms at the very top of the plant (you need binoculars to see them). I bought mine from PD, and I love it, except I can't share tubers with friends because they are so tough and inter-grown that I can't dig them. I cut some off with a hand saw, but they did not grow.

I have started some new Tree dahlia's from my own cutting sections, As I remember the new growth will come from the nodes as in your instructions, so the cutting should have 2 nodes. I think orientation matters if you stick it in vertically, not sure if you can tell on your pieces. I have the double purple, which has been blooming since November I think. I would be happy to trade some for a white one. Chad

It took a while, but despite the greenhouse height limit, it is blooming.

Yeah Chas, this one is getting closer and closer to the ground as the days roll along. I usually tie it to the fence but didn't get around to it this year.
