Hi there, georgez5il: I did check sales@proptek.com. I love the concept of air pruning and am really interested in trying it out. The sturdy root development shown on their website still makes me drool!! ;) I read about these "Speedling or Todd trays" in Square foot gardening By Mel Bartholomew. But he also says that besides being expensive they are difficult to keep watered. He further says that they are bulky and need to be sawed in half. Have you tried these out? If yes, what has been your experience? Has anybody else had any experience with these? Please Share your experiences and ideas. I am yet to contact proptek people to find out about the pricing and if it is affordable. Since they also sell second hand I have to brace myself. digdirt : I also checked the links but could not find the exact size. I liked Novosel and great sale too! I desire the same size that you were looking for (2.25 x 2.25 x 4" deep). Where did you find yours? I did not see that size on Novosel either or did I miss? Did you have luck? I would appreciate your guidance. lilamy : Mel Bartholomew went on to state tht his favorite containers remain the waxed cardboard yoghurt cups! Just like you!!So, I wonder if I am also ultimately going to end up doing the same. Only problem is they will waste space between them under the lights. And I wish to raise lots of seedlings this year. Also lights cannot be lowered to adequate height if I keep the cups in a plastic bin for humidity. But if I do try this then I will insert paper pots first in my yoghurt cups to facilitate removal and ease transplant shock. I have been saving on these cups. I would appreciate all the input I can get from the gardening experts out there.

That's a good solution. I did 6 of those, and they're nice. But I have a large supply of those deep-root 6-cell packs so use those w/4 inch pots I'd accumulated. Can't remember if I can fit all 6 in or fill two ends with 4 each end of the little pots. Too early to tell what my overall germination rate will be from those. Good results from the plastic cups with snap on lids which I purchased and vented. Seems like some seeds aren't too picky what you've got them in although think I lost one batch just covered with baggies to a freeze. It only matters once they've sprouted or just beginning to sprout with that (I think).

It was time to do some cleaning and go through all of the plant containers, so there are lots of extras available if anyone wants them! These need to get out of the way, and I thought IÂd give this a try. There are lots of pots, all different shapes and sizes square and round, clay and plastic, big and small. I will not have time to clean these up any more than dusting them off, and those that have been used for seed starting will probably have tape or marker on the sides. In other words, youÂll probably need to clean them when they arrive. I tried to go through them all, and removed anything broken, but canÂt guarantee I caught everything. There is nothing in particular IÂm looking for as a trade right now. Feel free to make an offer of whatever (?). Or if you are in the Rochester NY area, we may be able to arrange for you to come over and pick some up. Or as a third alternative, IÂll send you what you request if you reimburse my postage costs. If we havenÂt had a previous trade and youÂd like some feedback on me before sending postage, I could send you a link to my eBay feedback page. I would prefer we use priority mail for these, so I can get boxes at the post office. I have many on-going projects right now, and unfortunately very little time to spend doing this. I've used some of my jiffy trays that are in their 4th year now and holding up fine. I'm always really careful with my trays though- I slide a cookie sheet under them when I want to move them, make sure I never leave them out in the elements for longer than necessary. I also try to move my trays as little as possible. I did pick up a couple extra trays from Menards this year- I wanted a few extra for holding solo cups. They are Planters Pride I think? Or at least the rest of what Menards has is that brand. Anyway, they are for sure much tougher plastic than the jiffy trays. They were 99 cents each, on sale, I think regularly they are 1.99. For some of my "off" plantings, like a couple pots or several toilet paper tubes- I use recycled lettuce containers. They are really sturdy, hold up well for years- and I can use a pair of them for a tray and tall dome when I need to. Sometimes I use those big round clear plastic tubs meant for putting under houseplants as water saucers too if I'm using toilet paper tubes or only doing a few pots of something. I have the deep wall kind that I picked up on clearance from a nursery a year or two ago. Some of the best water through trays I've ever used were bread trays. Those heavy plastic ones that bread gets delivered to the grocery store in. Man, those things were tough as nails, super solid and sturdy, and when I needed to make them a solid tray, I would just line them with a garbage bag and bam. I lost the couple I had a couple moves ago, I should see if I can't get more of those.
